Yeah, my bad tbf. I was offering an example of someone who went to a massive club young and ended up fulfilling their potential anywhere, instead of someone who fulfilled their potential at said massive club. That'll teach me to read the post more thoroughly before hitting reply.

Yeah, he went to Real Madrid to make it at Real Madrid. Which he didn't.

He's a teenager, it's Barcelona. If he chose us it would show an extremely mature character on his part because most teenagers would see Barcelona and it would be a no-brainer, even if it didn't particularly make sense. It's the same when these kids go to Chelsea, despite the competition and their track record with young players. Even the fact that he's supposedly thinking about it now is impressive.

I’ve held this thought for a long time but I am not sure why these “wonder kids” go to Barca, Real, Bayern, Chelsea etc

There’s 2 or 3 every year that make these mega switches to these giants, and sure the lights are bright and it’s a glamour move to one of the biggest clubs in the world, but they never get a chance and the next you hear about them they’ve signed for a bottom-end mid table club in Spain and have to kick start their career after not playing for 4 years. I’m trying to think of any success stories in recent years and can only think of Alphonso Davies and Rodrygo, and those were both 5 years ago!!!!!!!!

I am not saying he should come here. It still may be too big of a step. Look at the track record of clubs like Brighton, Dortmund, Ajax, Lyon among others. Why are these kids not looking there? If you’re good, you’ll make it there and you’ll be at a Bayern/Barca in 2-3 years and cement a first team place upon signing your contract.

Maybe I’m too cynical and this kid is the Swedish Messi, but I’ve seen too many of these stories. Really hope he pivots away from them (and maybe even us if he isn’t ready) for the sake of his own career.

You’re right on the whole but you can’t really use Barca as part of your argument tbh. Last night in La Liga against Granada they started a team consisting of Pedri 21, Cubarsí 17 and Yamal 16 they then brought on Lopez 20 and Roque 18 who scored the winning goal. Further more possibly their biggest current talent Gavi is 19 and already integral to their team.

Since Laporte took over from Bartomeu ,who did his best to bankrupt Barca, they have made a change to the way they operate in regards to transfer. Instead of going for expensive mega stars they have shifted towards looking at exceptionally talented youth players mixed with older, experienced players (who are usually at the the end of their contracts) to help as the youth transition into the first team. Another large part of this change is looking towards their incredible academy, La Masia, and integrating the best prospects early. This shift in ethos has obviously been brought about by the financial predicament they find themselves in but it is also bearing fruit to a certain degree. Whilst Barca need A LOT of work and they are most certainly a poisoned apple at present, in regards to youth they are developing them as well as they ever have.

The issues for any young player joining Barca isn't that they will be sidelined. In fact I can't think of another big team in Europe that plays as many youth players as Barca do these days. The issue comes more from a play style perspective. Many of their youth prospects come through La Masia and thus have the Barca way imprinted on them from an early age. What can be difficult is new young players adapting to this style and ethos as it runs so deep. That being said, id warrant any good young player would back themselves to adapt to they way they do things.

What is certain is if Bergvall moves there and manages to adapt tactically then he will be playing a large role for them sooner then most may expect. By all accounts they view him as the player they had hoped De Jong could be, ie someone who could take over Busquets mantle. Obviously he may go there and struggle to imprint himself onto their team but that could also happen here. Obviously there is the concern of who the manager will be next season but considering how much money they would be committing to him when they have very little that alone shows how highly the club as a whole value him. Whoever the next manager is will be made aware of that before he signs and that goes for all the other young players who are currently breaking through into the first team.

I think the main "new" point is he was a Xavi signing and Xavi is no longer there.

Others at Barca aren't as convinced on him.
