He’s been our best player in some games. Was awful tonight. I’m still not convinced he can play in the same team as Son and it might even be Son can’t play in the attacking wingback system as it just eats his space.
Son won the golden boot last season in this system. He’s in bad form but I don’t think he’s the problem. I had high hopes for Sessegnon and Perisic on our left side this season but both have been overall average at best and we don’t fare much better on the right with Doherty and Emerson. Wingback really is a poor position for us and it’s making us really easy to play against. It’s all so predictable that our only threat atm is Kane and Son. Praying we get good development out of the likes of Spence and Udogie tbh because I have zero faith in any of our current 4 taking us forward

Yeah he's been disappointing really. Like others have mentioned, he's looked his age out there a few times and his lack of ruthlessness has surprised me. He took a shot on today first time that on this occasion he probably actually shouldn't have but it's what I've wanted to see more of with him.

It's a shame when both options at LWB now feel quite underwhelming. Same for on the right.

Yep. Still though, we’ll continue playing the same system and pinning all our hopes and dreams on our wingbacks doing something useful

Saw a stat today he has by far the highest cross success rate in the league. 42% have reached a spurs player. Nuts
He’s falling short in every other facet of being a wingback though unfortunately. Hopefully Conte’s right and there’s more to come from him. Relying on a player of his age to come good and take us forward is far from ideal though. Hopefully Udogie is as big a talent as he seems to be

I completely agree. He’s struggling to get up and down the pitch.

I would like to see him have a go in the front 3.

His legs obviously need to be managed in the big games, that require more effort in the wing back role.

I would tell him to stay higher up the pitch unless we are properly under the cosh. Plenty back there to help out

6th assists already (4PL 2CL), wow

His delivery is excellent.

The only issue is we need more from him in open play. 5 of his 6 assists have been from corners (4 deliveries and a flick on). Not taking anything away from that as it’s very important but we also need to be a threat from open play and we’re getting hardly any creation from the flanks.

If only we could merge the running power and movement of Sess with Perisic’s delivery.

When the team attacks they should ignore Royal and focus on the left side, use Royal as a decoy or a back post target.

Also the understanding with Son needs to improve, they're too close to each other sometimes.

He has been fine in his delivery so far from open play as well, just been a case of them not going in with the same frequency as the corners. The ball in to Emerson for the disallowed winner against Sporting as one example.

Agreed, his crossing is excellent but a big concern is his ability to get up and down the line.
