For a start he joined us and stuck by us when he was at a lot higher level than we were as a club, then he led us as captain to title challenges, cup finals and a CL final.
For me I have never liked goalies as captains and thought someone else should’ve been our captain being completely honest however Hugo has been a phenomenal servant and goalkeeper for us for the majority of his 11 years with us and should rightfully be known as a club legend and be welcomed back with open arms as a guest or with a role within the club in the future.
I met him once and got to ask him a few Q’s, seemed like a really genuine normal nice bloke, I did tell him back then that his saves are world class but if he wants to play centre mid with Pogba etc then he needs to work on his kicking
Growing up in the 80s and 90s he’s easily the best I’ve seen.
During his very long peak he was world class and prob would have a higher reputation if not at spurs. (Aka Kane).
A legend in evrery sense. Thanks for giving us your peak years and loyalty.
A match winner on his day, and he had a good few of those in a Spurs shirt. Sad he never lifted anything of note with us, but glad he’ll get a send off.
A great servant of the club. I remember watching England play France with Harry and Hugo shaking hands on the half way line as the respective captains of the two countries and feeling immense pride. He was the World Cup winning captain, and our 'keeper. A worthy recipient of the status of Club Legend.
