To me he's at his best when he's assisting the assister. A role he can't really focus while being asked to shield the back four. Something he's not suited.

but he doesn’t play through the lines well enough. Sometimes I think he might see the pass, then he hesitates for that split second and pops it marginally forward to a full back, or recycles it backwards.

So not top 4 good enough on the ball.

And he doesn’t do enough to shield the defence, frequently getting dribbled or jumping in for an interception and getting taken out of the game.

I don’t want to sell him, good enough as a rotation player BUT if there’s big money on the table we have to take it, given ENIC won’t be putting any up.

I can see the logic in the story pep has praised him in the past and a couple of their cm are close or in their 30s.

I’m really torn as to keep or sell like I have been kwp and Foyth. Think we have really dropped the ball with what how we’ve developed some younger players. That maybe he should of been able to be a little more versatile.

I’m so confused think it might be another deal that’s good for all parties.

One of the few home grown players.

That makes it less likely we will sell.

We have to be careful how many foreign players come in otherwise we will have paid for, and will be paying, someone who can't play.

It’s harsh to judge Winks on two seasons of playing alongside Sissoko in a team that has broadly struggled.

It's good money for him, but I wouldn't sell this window

We are not sure what's happening with Ndombele, I still don't like Sissoko at CM (but he has been needed there), Skipp sounds like he will be out on loan.

Not all people! I've rated him very highly ever since his debut.

If anything, signing PEH should help Winks to excel - as long as he gets to play. I do think he's more suited to playing with a proper CDM, rather than as the deepest CM. Dier was playing CDM for his lauded performance against Real Madrid, whereas a week earlier, when he was decent but far less impressive, he was instead playing alongside Sissoko.

I agree with what you’re saying, but the bold part isn’t right, if we’re talking about the Madrid away game 1-1, in 2017. Look at the clips on YouTube of Winks’ performance, Dier is deffo not in midfield.

On a personal level I would like us to keep Winks as a squad player. But he’s not good enough to start for us if we have ambitions to be an elite team again and if we received an offer north of £40m then I would sell and reinvest in RB area and backup ST. Sells himself defensively far too often and doesn’t offer enough creativity in the final third. He is a great player to bring on when you are seeing a game out because he’s very tidy on the ball. Skipp has a far greater ceiling in my opinion. If we do sell Winks we must not loan Skipp.

Watch when he receives the ball, his head is up looking forward, it's not his fault there's no movement in front of him.
Knew someone would use this excuse which is actually totally incorrect! Watch yourself 8 times out of 10 the pass is on early but he takes too many touches and the defence get into shape

Last season I was moaning on some matches how Winksy is not the level we need to push on and we should sell to West Ham. Fuck me, now that Guardiola wants him no way, got to keep him now as he’s world class! I am fickle ?

In terms of selling winks I think he is a good squad player and there is a pecking order of who should be sold which arguable ndombele and sissoko would be ahead of ! Though if Jose doesn’t plan to use winks much and he is being offered 40 plus mill he will prob want it

Unless we’re replacing him, we absolutely cannot sell Harry Winks.

Even without going into “he’s one of us” etc, our fixture list is going to be absolutely rammed this year. One injury in midfield and we’ll be very light.

Højbjerg is brand new
Sissoko is poor
Gedson is inexperienced and on loan
Ndombele’s yet to settle/ potentially wants out
Skipp is inexperienced and wants a loan
Lo Celso is our only other reliable midfield passer

These are the reasons not to sell Winks. If we do, he has to be replaced and that needs to be with someone we’d trust to be a starter as, whatever his failings, right now he’s very much in our first choice midfield 3 and will continue to be unless Ndombele has a mammoth turn around, Skipp blossoms unexpectedly soon or Gedson suddenly figures out the premier league. Alternatively, we could just go midfield 2 of Højbjerg and Lo Celso but then we’re crapping ourselves if either is ever unavailable.

I’m no huge fan of Winks but we cannot sell him unless we have a replacement lined up who could hit the ground running and realistically be first choice in a 3 with PEH or GLC, or partner either of them in a 2, because none of our other CMs are there yet.

Not good enough to start for us... ridiculous. If the reports are true one of the greatest ever managers clearly thinks he can develop him further and that he’s good enough to play for the best team in England. He can play at the base and box 2 box, young, English, spurs through and through. Why can’t Jose develop him!!

I can see Guardiola turning Winks into the English Xavi.

I think Winks would be well up for this move as his game doesn't suit our current manager's philosophy.

If fabregas or xabi alonso can play week in week out(barring injury) under Mourinho, then why winks can't? Yes winks is not as good as those two players, but there are lot of midfielders who have played under both mourinho and pep and became successful... Even I would say pure passing midfielders like alonso, fabregas(who are not runner) played their best football under Mourinho rather than pep ...
