Actually makes a lot of sense to me. Winks excels at ball retention, is mobile, tenacious and, crucially, homegrown. Pretty much the perfect Man City squad player.

Would hate to see him go though. Yes, he's limited in some respects, but he's Spurs through and through, and i'm looking forward to seeing how he performs in a midfield with a proper DM behind him.

Take the offer and run. Winks is not worth that much. He doesnt do anything particular well but make short safe passes.
Worse players have been sold for more.
I agree with what you’re saying, but the bold part isn’t right, if we’re talking about the Madrid away game 1-1, in 2017. Look at the clips on YouTube of Winks’ performance, Dier is deffo not in midfield.

You've confirmed what I said in bold haha!

For the away game, in October 2017, Dier was not playing in midfield. For the home game, in November 2017, Dier was playing in midfield.

Lineup is available here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41821993

Playing five at the back would also free up the CMs though, even without a CDM.

If we sell him to City , we should ask for at least 50m as City can afford it. Then sell Sissoko too and use the funds to get Grealish. Any leftover funds can be used to supplement the fees for RB or ST.

"English Xavi" has just made me splutter my Crunchy Nut Cornflakes all over my screen. This place really does crack me up sometimes.

There's way more to being a Pep-type of midfielder than just looking neat in possession against teams that are happy to let us have the ball in midfield because they know we don't have a clue what to do with it. Winks would be a noticeable drop-off from the likes of Fernandinho or Rodri, and I just can't see this being anything but fabricated nonsense

but he doesn’t play through the lines well enough. Sometimes I think he might see the pass, then he hesitates for that split second and pops it marginally forward to a full back, or recycles it backwards.
Only 6 players in the PL achieved more line-breaks per 90 mins than Winks last season. Only one player in the top 10 had a higher completion rate than Winks, suggesting he is better at judging when to attempt a line break and when to play a safer pass than the other 8.
The deepest lying CM cannot afford risky passes, like AMs are required to do in the final third, as a misplaced pass immediately puts your own defence under pressure (and leads to goals conceded).

And he doesn’t do enough to shield the defence, frequently getting dribbled or jumping in for an interception and getting taken out of the game.
He shouldn't be playing as the deepest midfielder and next season he won't need to - that will be Hojbjerg's role.

You want us to sell two CMs and replace them with one CAM? So much for Mourinho balancing the squad

Imagine how many N'Dombeles we could get for that money. Oh mama!

Let them buy Delph again instead.

Our fans are such helmets it's unbelievable. The level of derision an academy graduate that gives his absolute all and loves the club is a joke. I hope he goes and is a hit there, just so a bunch of you can look even bigger twats than you already do.

Edit - fwiw - there's nothing wrong with not rating him, or being happy to sell him - but some of you are acting like he's this hapless clown in midfield when he just isn't.

So not top 4 good enough on the ball.

I don’t want to sell him, good enough as a rotation player BUT if there’s big money on the table we have to take it, given ENIC won’t be putting any up.
I'm confused by how you think it's "creative" to state an opinion that's backed up by facts, instead of criticising someone for not playing risky incisive passes like a no.10 while simultaneously shielding the defence like a solid CDM. Hopefully you can see the irony.

As much as I have criticised and been frustrated by Winks in the past, I still wouldn't want to sell him.

I strongly believe he has been shackled by being our DM and had to worry about the defensive side of the game too much, which isn't his strength. This has had a negative impact on what he is actually good at.

Given more freedom and being played in front of a DM like PEH will give him the license to be more creative going forward.

If Jose is adamant that Tanguy doesn't have a future at Spurs, I think a midfield 3 of PEH, Gio and Winks has a lot going for it. All 3 don't mind grafting, they are all tenacious and don't mind a tackle but in Gio and Winks we have creativity as well.

40m quid isn't enough for a 24 year old, home-grown, England International, on a long contract.
Especially to the likes of Man City.

I don't want to sell him because as I've said before, I think Højbjerg will be excellent for him and I honestly think he'll be hard to replace, and not just because of the home-grown issue.
He's deserves a season of freedom on the pitch, without being shackled to defensive duties while his partner was shackled to our right back.

Look we all like Winks. He's one of our own, he just a very likable guy and a very decent player. But turning down 40 million for him is as insane is when we rejected Utd's offer for Dier.

If we had endless pots of cash, then it's totally different. But we don't and if we want to improve the squad we've got to raise funds through sales. This deal will never happen as it's total made up nonsense. But if by some miracle it was true, it would be pure insanity to reject it. It would be a case of our hearts ruling our heads. We all know that to challenge for honours consistently, we need better CM's than Winks. So by rejecting the offer it would mean having 40 million sat on the bench, that could have been reinvested towards bringing in better players than those who are currently in our best starting line up.
Just like Kyle Walker...?

A player that looks busy because he's always trying to recover from being out of position, IF we've been offered £40million we'd be extremely foolish not to take it
Respectfully, I just cannot agree with you. Try putting better players around him, and advance him nearer the final third. To me that is his best position. He is far too intelligent and insightful to be playing alongside Sissoko, and any other DM! That is NOT his position!

Have to look at it this way ! 40 mill gets you benrahma or however you spell it and eze! Would you swap winks for them two players I know I certainly would! Or a cm and Wilson selling winks makes the squad stronger tbh! This isn’t just with winks this is any player Jose doesn’t see as a first 11 starter you get 40 plus mill you take it

I’m hoping that now we’ve got Højbjerg we again see that great talent of a couple of seasons ago

Really hoping it’s more pressure and responsibilities that have led to his regression than injuries and comfort zone

Maybe it’s wishful thinking but hope not because we’ve seen his capabilities and they are right up there
