Kane is world class, no doubt. However, I'm always intrigued when he's out to see how we do. I think maybe now more than ever as I don't think he'll stay beyond the end of next season.

We've always covered him well. At least in my head we have. You'll always miss a player of Kane's quality but we seem to play differently and more fluidly when he's been injured before.

I'm not as concerned as I once was at the thought of playing for a few weeks without him.

Agree, we can’t really play any worse either can we.

We’ve covered without him well under a possession based slow build up system...no evidence of it with a pump it long and give up the ball like it’s a hot potato. Teams will press us and we’ll have to pump it long as we have nobody in midfield currently like a Kante who can receive it and move it forward (Ndombele is that guy when fit).

I’m not going to lie lads, this time the absence of Kane is making me shit myself.

yep this is spot on, our previous style mean no Kane wasn't a huge issue, if we keep playing the way we are with a smaller guy up top like we did with Lucas against Bayern away or even if its Son and we don't keep the ball well and we keep hitting long clearences we will have fuck all posession and Liverpool and other teams will find it so easy to defend against us.

I'm not optimistic at all about having him out.

Are there any other "top" teams that have a player in that position of that type except us (lol top team) and Bayern with Lewandowski? Most top teams have small, nippy, technical forwards. Salah, Mane, Aguero, Sterling, Messi, Suarez etc etc

I sometimes wonder if Kane is our problem, especially alongside Dele up front. We just seem so ponderous.

To paraphrase Jay Z - Spurs have 99 problems but Harry isn't one of them!

Please don't mistake my point with downplaying Kane. He is an absolutely amazing footballer and absolutely world class. I'm not saying we're better without him. Just that it's interesting to see us play differently. I think Kane being injured previously gave Sonny the belief that he could be our star man and he stepped up.

If Kane played for a city, Liverpool or a top European club his goal stats would be ridiculous

Totally agree. We done OK when he was out last time so lets see what happens.

Even if we go on a good run now I'll never say we're a better team without Kane in it.

A centre forward as good as Kane only improves the team and if we're not getting the best out of him (and thrashing him by playing him far too much) the fault is with the playing system and squad set up.

As per my very very long previous post in this thread, we should have bough in a decent centre forward to COMPETE with him (not just back him up) two seasons ago when Jansen went tits up.

And when he is back we should be playing a 4-3-3- with three midfielders who can actually pass the ball (sorry Sissoko!) and two wide players either side of Kane. Unless Dele has an absolutely incredibly change in form and stops destabilising the team balance.

Obviously it's really difficult to tell with these types of injuries and there are so many factors however in my unprofessional but experienced opinion there may be a few points of hope.

One it seemed like it was a relatively short sprint / push off so hopefully the load wasn't severe, as opposed to when it goes in full sprint ala Micheal owen (generally pacey players suffer worse due to the number of twich fibres). I can't find a vid to see exactly when he pulled up but usually it goes when the muscle relaxes briefly after tension.

The second point is that he appeared to be holding the thick middle part of the hamstring where there is more muscle mass and a better blood supply. Generally tears to this part heal quicker due to the better blood supply.

Thirdly he has a good record of recovery and as its a new injury there may be less complication when rehabbing.

At a guess id say grade 2 - minor. Three weeks. A total guess and perhaps more in hope but you never know.

Eh, whatever. It's January. Now is about the time he gets hurt and is out for 3-4 months anyway. Then as we get close to summer, he rushes to be back for England. It's clockwork now with Kane, unfortunately. You cant count on him for more than 5 months of the season. Maybe next time we develop a world class striker(huge, massive if) we actually get cover for him instead of running him into the ground.

What has that got to do with what Mourinho said?

He was never going to make the cup game anyway.
