For me, if it works and he manages to find a role in the squad then great. If not then we haven't really lost out on anything, as we weren't really looking for a player in that position anyway.

One way to look at it....if its not you shelling out 1/4 mill per week.. I tend to take account of the 'Opportunity Cost' in issues like this . Who could we have in our team that would accept 1/4 mill/week in wages ...somebody fairly good I'd suggest .

Anyway , hopefully he'll begin to start justifying his huge overall wage (600k) at some point .

Some players just get fucked quicker. Look at Schevchenko at Chelsea. He was magnificent for Milan, arguably the best striker on the planet, came to Chelsea at 29 or 30 and was absolute shite in every aspect.
Apart from that one stunning goal against us at the Lane in the FA Cup q/f replay - typical!!

It was worth a punt but he's not the player he once was and at his wage level / age we can't hold on to him to see if he can turn it round like ndombele.

At the end of the season he can go back to Madrid and they can be lumbered with his wages.

Ready to give up on him this quickly, God knows how you felt about Ndombele last season.

But then you'd need to factor in transfer fee as well so the outlay would be far in excess of ten million.
Has any attacking player moved to a Premier League club for less than £20m and made a significant contribution this season?

I just don't think Bale has lost the speed, when Vardy at 33, 2 fucking years older, can burst his lungs and make those sprints every game.

I just don't think, I don't think (mimicking Mourinho)

maybe we could get him fitted with one of those “casts“ that Vardy had that season and see if that helps?

Good answers (y)

Cavani is only just getting into the starting line up now though so he wasn't an immediate success. I haven't seen many games that he's played. Is he playing well overall, or is he just poaching a few goals?

You don’t really need to have watched him play to know how he’s doing, do you? Hes scoring goals and winning games, which is exactly what he brought to the club to do.

Even though Bale hasn't really reached the level we all hoped yet for whatever reason, i have no doubt that just by arriving at our club he has had a huge influence on why we are top of the league, i truly believe the massive lift he gave the squad when he joined, the status he gave our club , the total transformation of the mood after we had lost the opening game i think can't be dismissed.

Bale signing changed everything imo, and is worth every penny we have spent .

He's scored one more goal than Bale so if we're just going off goals scored there's not really much in it.
I was asking because he's been out for a while as well so I didn't know if he was almost back to his best as well.

I think he's taking on more sprints, seemingly, each time I watch him play. I am encouraged actually as I wasn't expecting the 2012-13 Bale to return but a slightly wiser, measured, mature player without the explosive part of his game. He'll come on on Sunday and I think he will make a difference.

Cavani has looked absolute class from the first moment he walked onto the pitch for them, unfortunately

We're not comparing him to Bale are we?

My point was that you don't have to have watched him play to know how he's doing (which was your question). He's got 3 goals and 1 assist in 126 minutes of Premier League football. He's doing fine.

Every week I think it will be the one where he clicks into gear, and every week I’m wrong.

I think our trouble is that we all expect him to explode into action and win games on his own. He’s not going to do that straight out of the gate. He’s barely played in 2020, Madrid ruined his fitness levels, and ruined his confidence.

He still shows flashes of absolute brilliance his touch, and skill are evident, he just needs to relax a little and be confident that he is a good player.

I wonder whether we should play him on the left a few times, so he can get the feel of beating his man and contributing crosses and goals in the final third. Right now he’s too slow cutting in and his path is blocked more often than not. Just go back to basics and get his confidence back.

I’m still confident it will come good and he will be a big big player for us in the second half of the season.
