Am I on my own if I said, GB returning at the age of 31, with his history of significant injuries, having not played regular competitive football for well over 24months, coupled with questionably motivation and desire to be a list of reasons why the thought of his return fails to rev my engine?

Depends how ambitious he is really. He's got a few more years left in him. He can do whatever he likes after he retires, and has enough money to, well, make his great great grandchildren live rich comfortable lives. It wouldn't be daft to move for less money in the UK, but it is also perfectly understandable why he wouldn't. It depends on what he values.

The indications are he is perfectly happy with his situation, but, the situation in the Wales team, where he wasn't considered sharp enough to see out the game against Finland, may affect his thinking.
This... is the reason he’s not coming home

Wales Golf Madrid in that order...

I don't pretend to follow Wales or the Nations League too closely. Ryan Giggs does however, and there were numerous reports of him looking rusty vs. Finland. Giggs followed up with :
"Two days training and going into a tough international game was always going to be hard physically. But he recovered well and, speaking to him in the last couple of days, it's the best he's felt in a long time."

Look, Bale is 31 now and has a very keen eye on Euro 2021. He knows it could likely be his last major international tournament and as the Welsh captain I really think he cares and wants to be in form for it. in 2019 he may not have cared about playing for Madrid and only wants the money, but I really don't see it as a coincidence that reports of him pushing for a move come out after testing out his body in internationals. He knows he needs to be playing regularly to be his best, so for once I really do believe he would accept a move to Spurs, even for only a year. I don't think this is a pipe dream anymore in the slightest.

I mean, they are legitimate concerns. But for me the potential positives would outweigh the negatives. Sometimes you take a risk.

For what its worth, I suspect that a lot of comments like this, while completely valid are also a defence mechanism, so when it doesn't happen one can be, like, ehh didn't want him anyway.

My questioning his ambition is great, I can't lose, if he doesn't come it's because he doesn't have the hunger for it, so wouldn't want him anyway, if he does come it's because he does have that hunger and he is 'proving me wrong'. Always a winner with that mentality!

Club are just trying to find a way to break it to Kane that he's our Europa League striker before announcing Bale.

Yeh, the sentence after is important too though. People are in constant flux. The reality is we don't know. If I was a betting man I would say he wont come, but we do now have positive indications that it is theoretically possible.

Isn't that what Parrott is? One thing that has been different this window is signing players who are already developed. Players who will make an impact now rather than the long term project under Poch. If there's any chance of signing Bale I think we should 100% make it happen. He will score more goals and win more games than any striker we've been linked with. He would increase our chance of winning trophies a lot more than the likes of Daka or Leao etc. That's not to say I wouldn't take one of those too but if it's one or the other it has to be Bale.
I’m never saying no to bale. He’d probably be the most marketable signing we’ve ever made, I’d say more so than if we signed dybala. He still has magic I’m sure. He obviously has the connection with all the fans. I think I definitely worded my post incorrectly. I think what I was trying to say was that we should be preparing for the future without actually realizing that bale catapults us up a level in the here and now. I’d just like us to look at both bale and a youngster who can be moulded under bale and Kane. And like you said, if not a new signing, then parrot very soon. Now it’s gotten to the point where I realize how much I disagree with my previous post and that bale should be preferable, dunno why I didn’t think that originally.

Can someone wake me up in 50 years when Gareth Bale is officially dead, because apparently that’s the only thing that will stop him being linked with us

HE’S NOT COMING

I actually did read this post in Will Ferrell’s voice.

He won’t reduce his wages to come to us - why would he; he only needs to play a handful of games at Real; play golf and live in a beautiful house in a lovely city. Come back to the UK? He’s not that daft

Of course he won’t reduce his wages. But that’s what all the reporting says - Madrid now willing to subsidize so he wouldn’t have to reduce his wages one penny. The money into his pocket stays exactly the same.

now, if he’s happy not playing and earning the check, he’ll stay right where he is, butthis has nothing to do with how much money he makes. He’s going to be equal in all scenarios on that front.

50% is still 300k a week - Kane earns 200k a week. Forget it.
If he comes to PL, probably United will go for him

Kane is said to earn around £300k p/w including bonuses, his basic is £200k.

No idea what those bonuses are. CL obvs plays a part.

Maybe matching Kane’s terms with a big signing on fee could be in the realms of do-able, more so if we can shift someone.

Remember we were prepared to write down £12m for 2 years of Llorente on £100k p/w.

What is Bale worth to us by comparison as a guaranteed starter? What is possible CL and the commercial exposure worth?
