To be fair I’ve followed Nathan for a good few years. Would be very out of character if he was trolling. That’s not to say his source is any good - he’s never gotten information before that I’m aware of.

Yeah I don't doubt Nathan's intentions but he's just a (very knowledgable) football nerd with weird hair - he doesn't have connections to the club and I can't imagine someone from within randomly contacting him to share something like this.

Just seen David Moyes claim he came “very very close” to signing Bale from Spurs in 2013 before he went to Madrid. My recollection of that summer is that Madrid were linked with him very early on. Then things went quiet for a few weeks and then when pre-season started the links went into top gear and his agent was openly flirting with Madrid from for about 6 weeks before it finally went through. So I don’t want to call David Moyes a liar, but I’d suggest that if he genuinely thought Utd were close to signing Bale during that summer it may explain why he made such a dreadful mess of that transfer window and ended up panic buying Fellaini.
