Don't believe for a second that Bale prefers us. Utd can offer more money and Champions League. He would be crazy to choose us over them.

Yes, and there's a big difference between what that entails and the concept of "mid table" and "relegation".

Yeah, we'd be worse off - but not apocalyptically. Not 'West Ham sans Payet' stuff, thanks to lads like Son still being around.

If we follow the Liverpool model (post Suarez and Coutinho) then we'd hopefully be able to rebuild and deal with it. We'd need better recruitment before then, though.
Therein lies the problem. There wont be better recruitment suddenly because we might have money. Its still the same chairman with the purse strings and the same recruitment head(whose now even been promoted).

but but but the lure of playing in the worlds best stadium is just too much to resist.....even if it comes at a cost of several million pounds each year

I think it will happen too. The virus has just focused a section of people's minds to it. They'll either protest or walk away.

We all know as soon as fans are allowed back, it will be a sell out. People will be itching to get back to normality and having a few pints whilst moaning about how crap we are.

Bale would show ambition and put us back amongst talk of being a team who can break back into the top 4. I fear we are going to go the other way though and do what Arsenal have done, slipped out and struggled to get anywhere near ever since. It's a viscious cycle, unfortunately when it happens to United/Chelsea/City, they can go and spend £300m and not flinch. For everyone else, they have to be careful how they spend the money but we have been careful for too long, this is the season we need to go "all or nothing". Give Jose another world class player to go with Kane and see how far he can take us.

Hell if Sunday wasn't a wake up call for Levy then I don't know what will be, we have been crying out for a player who can change a game since Eriksen decided he wanted to leave, you could argue its been longer as Eriksen didn't always change a game like Bale could. I also think we need someone who can draw defenders away from Kane and Son because it is so easy for teams to set up against us.

Sancho is the fly in the United ointment. If they sign Bale they are effectively writing off Sancho for two or three years because either one isn't going to be that cheap but both at the same time would be a king size commitment. I feel it's possible United will take the view that even if they had to wait a year for Sancho, given his age and all that, it would be a better investment, which fits with what they are currently doing.

Total guess of course :D But that's what i'm pinning my hopes on.

Of course, the Chairman of Lilliput might pull a rabbit out of the hat. But right know I feel my guess is more likely :hungry:

I don't believe we are flitting from player to player as far as ST is concerned. That's just how it looks.
Looks a lot to me like, Mourinho has said he wants a striker. We lost at the weekend, so the journos are happy to link us with every Tom, Dick and N'Harry because they know we are desperate enough to click on the bait.

I can’t wait for the day we are back in the stadium, to let Levy & ENIC know their time is up.
ENIC isn't going anywhere without a massive offer. And the list of people with that kind of money isn't exactly long, unless you want to welcome in mid east or russian blood money. Frankly I have a hard time picturing myself happy in the knowledge that Qatari slavers or Moscow gangsters are getting rich on the back of my club.

The opportunity to come back to a club he loves, with a fan base that love him and into a world class stadium, I wouldn't underestimate any of that. He will know the club need a boost and if he can get back to his best form, I'm sure the lure of transforming our recent fortunes might be quite attractive to him. Add in playing for Jose over Ole and you have some solid arguments for why he might prefer us.

Yes I agree UTD have some very attractive points also, for example the CL but I genuinely believe we are his first choice.

N'Harry? Is he that guy from the Ivory Coast?

Imagine being as ambitious as Levy says in the documentary, then failing to pull the trigger on the one deal that shows biggest ambition!!

I don't think they money offer will be any different as reports are suggesting that they are looking at a 1 year loan deal.

For me this whole situation is more than the player, it's the intent the club want to show not only the fans but the players.

If we sign him we're showing a real statement of intent that the board want the club to succeed on the pitch and are willing to take financial risks.

If we allow him to go elsewhere we are signalling that we simply aren't willing to make a decision to elevate the club over our rivals, that the only way we win a major trophy is by a Leicester style miracle which Poch nearly pulled out in the Champions League or a domestic trophy where the cup run is favourable.

Financially the board should consider whether Bale could be the difference between Champions League football.
