I watched that youtube training video and he was one of the players that really stood out. Interesting he was on the attacking side over the defensive, unless he switched.

(edit - actually he did switch, I just checked)

I don't know I mean there's so many games compacted this season. I can see him getting games if he gets his head down and works hard. Just needs to follow instructions and Conte will take to him. I do wonder if we would accept a bid for Doherty if one came in. What I like about Spence is that he has pace to go on the outside. The only other one with pace is Moura but he plays more inside. I think that makes Doherty pretty redundant as he doesn't offer anything we don't have now.

Think the main issue will be the defensive side of his game. He might be the best attacking RWB we currently have at the club but until Conte feels like he can trust him defensively and understands his system I think he'll opt for Royal, Doc or Lucas ahead of him.

That 'trust' factor is huge for Conte and in the league he seems quite binary about it. Until Spence earns his trust (maybe through playing the cups or injuries to other RWB options?) I don't think he'll even get a sniff in the league.

Why do you think this?
Conte clearly likes Emerson, Doherty has been making the bench and Lucas is seen as a clear RWB option. If he's going to rotate in the PL he's just going to switch Doherty and Emerson around, and Lucas will always be seen to be another RWB option from the bench negating the need for Spence to be there.

The best he will be is a rotation option in the Carabao Cup depending on who we play. Just think all roads are pointing towards a January loan unless Emerson and Doherty start having absolute stinkers. I honestly think Sarr will play more than Spence.

You maybe right. But I think it’s too early to judge. Conte has said he needs to work hard and improve his level now he’s in the prem. until he’s had a chance playing in the cups etc… it’s hard to know how ready he is. If comes in and starts a carabao cup match and gets MOTM who’s to say he can’t really kick on and get prem starts as the season progresses. As I said, it’s too early to judge imo.

I thought he looked better offensively than defensively in that clip. Definitely looks like he'd be better than Emerson going forwards but probably worse on the other side of the game, which I imagine is why Conte hasn't just given him a game.

I think it's important for those concerned about him not playing yet to look at how Conte has intergrated the other players we bought this summer. Lenglet, Richarlison and Bissouma have yet to start, despite all being experienced top level pro's. Conte wants them to learn his system inside and out, which is why Perisic is getting game time. Spence will play, it just won't be as quickly as some on here want.

we have 6 Cl league games before the Christmas/World Cup break, plus any EFL games. I am sure he will get minutes in the EFL if only to rest the first team squad. If he impresses, then he will get the opportunity IMO.

It's never too early to judge, have you learnt nothing from SC ?

He does seem to like Emerson, but you could see his visible frustration with him on the touchline last Saturday when he failed to make the most of opportunities in the final third. I think physically and stylistically Spence is the most Conte RWB we have. I suspect being young and new to the club, at lot of work is being done to get him up to speed with exactly what the manager wants. Let's not forget that he took Hakimi out of the Inter team for a stretch of games, and worked extensively with him for a number of weeks to get his ideas across. It may take a little time, but I suspect Spence will be out starting RWB come the new year.

I would like to reach a situation where spence can be used as an impact sub and utilise his pace and direct play when needed. It's a bit harsh on Doherty assuming royal is first choice but I'd either have doherty first choice or not at all. He isn't an impact player like spence could be. All IMO of course!

He was fantastic defensively against Martinelli in that cup game last season.

Yep agreed. Spence has all the attributes. He just needs time to get up to speed with Conte. But if carries over his form from last year, I think he'll be our starting RWB before the end of the season.
