Wow, absolutely, excellent post. The difference between Joey/Ange and almost everyone else here is that he's aiming for the stars and sees a possible gap opening up in the next year or two. 'We don't need good players we need great ones' is exactly the point.

Others are just making angry responses because their favourite player is not being praised.

I would urge people to join Ange and Joey look up to the stars rather than a continuation of our top 4 maybe yes maybe no mentality. We really do have everything now except killer attackers.
OR, we can realize that all great players were once good, and there is something know as development.

It is also important to know that it takes time to build something that is both successful and lasting. Always wanting the shiny new thing is rarely the way to get there. That will turn a team into current Chelsea. Funnily, the importance of time is something Ange is repeatedly stressing.

Maybe we should join his way of actually thinking, instead of pretending that ambition equals wanting to replace a young player who is yet to reach his full potential.

Joey55 made a great post, presenting his opinion (although a disagree with a lot of it).

Then you made a mockery of his point by boiling all the opposing views down to "angry responses because their favourite player is not being praised," and turning it into something much more divisive. THAT made me angry.

He didn‘t play against United, so he already had three weeks off after we played Burnley. No need to rest him at all.

He didn't play because he was ill though, and could still be suffering some effects of that, depending on what that illness was.

Either way, I don't believe he won't start today.

He is nailed on to start and deservedly so. His play is not attractive to watch but his strengths are solid. He doesn't lose the ball alot, has good work rate and is a goal threat. He isn't consistently productive but that's ok. He's not at that level yet.

This is why it's so good to have competition for places. Hopefully it will drive both Johnson and Kulusevski to perform better and become better players.

Much needed kick up the arse
Much-needed rest more like. Think he would have been first choice if he was 100% physically. Deki is so underrated for his overall game. He does a lot of great work defensively with his tracking back and awareness of threats. One of Everton's main threats is McNeil off their left with his crossing. Brennan will need to be on his game helping to cut off that distribution.

Oh, sorry if I made you angry, but the point is that reaching for excellence will mean less sentimentality at Spurs.

Give you an example. No-one would say a word of doubt about Skipp for a couple of years. A beloved player, but when a new player manifestly
of a higher quality came in the improvement was obvious and now one hears the suggestion that we should move him on quite often... heresy a few short months ago.

I guarantee you that Ange will be going after killer forwards in the summer window. Yes we have good forwards, but as Joey will tell you. We need elite forwards to go that stage further.

Oh and I must add that when I made the remark the people are annoyed about their fave players not being praised, that was to support Joey who's excellent post had garnered a load of red responses. Certainly not a mockery of Joey's point .

I probably overreacted, but you dismissing all opposing opinions as down to sentimentality is just silly. Especially so when there are people having a proper discussion about the player, with thought-out arguments on both sides.

My point is that it is not as simple as you put it. If the great teams only ever went for the here and now players, they would never be able to build anything sustainable, and players would be able to develop.

Also, your example proves my point more than yours. People kept quiet about Skipp because he was (still is) young and kept getting better. The fact that many have now "turned on" him, is proof that many couldn't be less sentimental in these situations (although some are, of course).

I guarantee you that he will as well. That doesn't mean he will give up on improving the players we already have. He certainly won't dismiss young players who have already proved that they, at least occasionally, can deliver at the highest level. What is doesn't mean either is a lack of ambition.

Sheer petulance from him today. Livid.

Only looked like scoring from a set piece ffs.
Got away with a stupid shirt pull against Everton at home, conceded a penalty a few days later at Brighton and gave away a stupid free kick today - yes we should have defended it better - but come on Deki, show a bit of intelligence please - set pieces were causing us issues all game.

Such a brain-dead foul to give away. Absolute stupidity. For all his qualities and mentality/endurance, he is not the soundest of mind when it comes to decision making. Love him at times but you never know what you'll get with him and that is a concern long-term

Incredibly stupid free kick to give away. Fuming.

Other than that, we looked much better with him on the pitch. Bentancur and Brennan were so reactive. With Sarr and Deki we actually started to control the game.

He deserves to sit on the bench. He gives away stupid free kicks in critical moments like this one. And he's not producing enough in terms of goals and assists.

Not sure i agree. Looked like conceding in the last 15. Don't think we had control at all.
