@ Sky Sports:

Danny Rose will not be joining Trabzonspor today and looks set to sit out the rest of the season. The 30-year-old left-back was not named in the Spurs squad this term and is out of contract in the summer.

He was never going there. I bet he’ll retire at the end of the season after taking his money.

Probably for the best for him. He’ll never attract anything better than the type of club where you need to Google every player at the club before joining and I don’t think his ego could handle it. With his apparent mental health issues he could probably do without that stress in his life.

He’ll be in the sky studio on pundit duty for our games within the next twelve months.

That way Souness won’t have to pretend to like us anymore when they’ve not got any Spurs pundits on.

I thought he was on loan but not playing.

I liked Rose in his prime and having him on the left and Walker on the right worked really well.

But Walker got himself a move to a mega rich club. When Rose was ready to leave his performances just weren't good enough to move up a level.

His contract is up this summer, I believe, but I don't think he has much of a career left.
Walker has played at a high level for a decade. Rose had 2-3 seasons at that level.

I agree.

I think many took having Rose and Walker as our wing backs for granted. Players who can get up and down the pitch like they did all game long is really rare.

Trippier and Davies just weren't like for like replacements. We needed to then change around and rely on players in different positions to offer us width.
thats why Im not a big fan of a back 3. Its fashionable these days but you need the right fullbacks and they dont grow on trees. Davies, who I like, should never be played as a wingback for example, but we do sometimes. Its just not his strong suit.

I agree. In a different way Eriksen was the same. Once he was mentally ready to leave the clubs above us just weren't interested.

I think from a footballing point of view this left him in no mans land.

At the time I think Rose was probably the better player of the two, but when the big move didn’t materialise for him, he lost his head. It’s a shame it’s ended this way for him, because he was a very very good player once upon a time.

It's why I'd keep Davies, as a LCB in a three he's a good option usually and as a LB. With that said I do think as a LWB it very much depends who's next to him at the back or in front, some cover him well some leave him high and dry (Son against Chelsea for example)

He does have that victim complex about him. He was clearly leaking stuff about how the "squad" were unhappy that they "weren't paid enough" and that the club "hadn't rewarded them" for having "such a great season", and yet there's only really ever been a couple of players who haven't had regular new contracts and pay increases that I can think of - and one of them (Eriksen) was because he didn't want to sign them.

There are people like that in all walks of life, though.

I wish Rose all the best ( funny how fans turn on players) very committed aggressive wing back as well as being out spoken. It is a shame how it's all ending. There was a point in his career he was up amongst the best left back in world football for a short period of time.

Wonder if he'll open a chippy when he retires. Well, I say retire, he's getting paid handsomely for nil return now.

Too soon for a "when the chips are down" gag. :sneaky:

He hasn't refused his services to play...it's on the club. Many Mourinho or even Levy has a chip on their shoulders.

How are you sure about that? We don't actually know, do we?

We know he spoke to Jose because he wasn't happy about his lack of playing time. We know he hasn't been named in our squad. We know he's played with the U23s.
Has there been anything in the media that suggests that he's refused to play?

If he'd have refused to play we'd have had grounds to terminate his contract. The fact Levy is still paying him suggests this is not the case.

Never said he had refused to play. My post stated that he gets paid handsomely for nil return now.

Didn’t play the blame game, so not really understanding the direction of the ensuing posts.

For whatever reason, my point stands. At present we are getting nothing in return for a player we pay well.

What you've said can be levelled at a number of players. Are we getting a good return on Vinicius Lamela(constantly injured) Dele hardly played, Bale probably the highest earner at our club.

Your point is a unnecessary dig at a player who has overall given the club good service when called upon.
