He is a secondary and more a blood and guts type defender He has a lot of positives but that rashness in his game is not going anywhere imo. It looks great when he goes in crunching and comes out with the ball however have to accept now and it again he'll get it wrong. For me, I'd like to see him defending further up the pitch. I think his game is best when he can read and nip in front of attackers and that's something he seems to thrive on. Also from those areas, give him more of a chance to step out and pick a pass.

He is never going to make defending look effortless like a Van Dijk, a Varane or dare I say a Saliba. Thats just not the type of defender he is. To get the best out of him. he needs those type of defenders next to him. A calm, sound head next to him to compliment his style. Pretty confident if we get that kind of CB, he'll step up a level and be much better.

Let's be honest, as long as he doesn't push for a move, he has much more of a future than the likes of Dier and Sanchez are failed experiments and for me are both finished at the club.
He would have been very well suited to playing in a back three with Toby & Jan, in our high-pressing era under Poch.

Strolls about like he’s in his back garden passing to his 4 year old son Most of the time, needs a rocket up his arse. Shame the lads are all little pansies that won’t say fuck all. Half our problem, need a captain to bollock the little cherubs

Best defender we have but by no means the finished article yet. We will need a top level experienced defender who is a good communicator to help him realise his potential further.

I’m sorry but yes he made a mistake for the pen, but he was brilliant outside of that. Incredible assist, was unreal on the ball, so composed and made countless great tackles and clearances. He is not the problem.

He has such a high ceiling. We just need to be patient with him

He needs coaching. He's not the finished product. But he's technically superb and will be a monster with the right coach.

That doesn't justify him being out of position and sauntering back. Lunging in for a penalty as well.

I'm not a fan of Dier, but people on here allow certain players to get away with murder.

He's been poor since the world cup

Think playing Central in a 3 might give him more disincline (positionally atleast

He was at fault or partly at fault for their first two goals as well.

He might be brilliant but he's not been brilliant lately and that is part of the problem.

He needs to do better. They all do, but saying he's not the problem just highlights how over rated is and gets a free pass from our fans.

You imagine Rashford would have scored if it was one v one with Romero ?

He needs a leader beside him, someone capable of reigning in his more suicidal tendencies and telling him when to push and when to come deeper etc.

Probably not, but Romero was in that game. Why was he so high up leaving Dier exposed? It's not like he doesn't know Dier has the turning radius of an oil tanker, and is slow as fuck.
