Him winning a World Cup means bugger all. What he does for Spurs is what counts, and in this regard he’s no different to Dier, Sanchez, Lenglet or any of our other defenders: not as good as some say, and not as bad as some say, just somewhere in the middle.

He needs a commanding presence next to him imo. He isn't the type to be a primary defender in a two because he has rash moments him. Needs someone to give him a bollocking when needed and rein him at times.

He still needs maturing as a defender and worry is playing next to that oaf Dier isn't going to bring his game on. Dier is the kind of bloke that would turn prime Baresi into Titus Bramble if he was playing next to him.
Are we now blaming Dier for the faults of other players?

Sigh......no one's directly blaming! But Romero is the younger CB whose game needs maturing and it doesn't help him playing alongside a supposed senior 29 year old defender who has been at the club/in the league a decade and still can't command/lead a defence and is fully of errors.

Well, Romero is hardly a child either. He is 4 years younger than Dier and we can't put all his faults and errors to people playing around him like he is some teenager prospect.

It really wasn't Dier's fault yesterday that Romero couldn't tackle Murphy or follow Joelinton's run (might have the names wrong, it's a bit of an angry blur). I know he's the punching bag but he's not this black hole of badness that sucks everything in, and we can't criticise one player's lack of leadership/responsibility whilst absolving another of the same thing.

Good grief, no one is doing that!

Look no one is saying Romero does not have his faults andis immune to criticism! He is a secondary type defender that's needs a commanding, sure footed presence next to him who brings calm. That's just the player he is.

At his age he hasn't peaked in terms of maturity and some players never do but do you seriously think his game wouldn't cone on playing next to a Van Dijk type figure?

CB's are about partnerships and I'm sorry at 29 years old truth is Dier needs hand holding himself yet he is somehow the senior CB at us.

Absolutely criminal defending for the first goal, but since then he has more or less defended for all three of our CBs.

Don’t think attitude is the problem… get him defenders that can actually defend next to him.

Think I'd like him to play centrally in a 3. He has the calmess on the ball plus he isn't the quickest to pass forward which we need from a RCB

Cannot wait to see what he is like with some decent players around him, certainly not one to give up on yet.

I thought he was pretty decent tonight. Certainly the best centre back. Put him alongside a centre back who can play on the front foot rather than someone who retreats and retreats and I think we will be in a better position.

Said it before, play him alongside a dominant, calm and composed defender who is a leader and it will compliment his style really well. Someone who can rein him in at times.

As the senior defender,, Dier's own game is an absolute train wreck so how is he going to lead/guide the younger guys around him. If you're playing next to Dier, after a while you know he is going to lead jack and are left wondering when his next cock will be. Totally unsettling presence.
