So why aren’t Benfica playing him/why are they getting rid of him?
Evidently Jorge Jesus has come in and wants a pace merchant who plays off the shoulder of the defense to lead the line. They spent 25m on Darwin Nunez who fills that remit, and with Vinicuis out of their starting XI it makes sense for them to move him on. The thinking is that his value will drop if he stays at Benfica and doesn't play so going off to Spurs where he'll likely play a lot as rotation for Kane makes better business sense even if we don't trigger the option to buy. If he does well with us (and I'm backing him to be a big hit if he's Jose's first choice) you'd image there would be a long line of suitors in the Premier League.

Interestingly it sounds like Gedson’s buy out clause is being decreased as part of the deal.

EDIT: not my info, but a benfica fan I know told me that

I think when Jorge Mendes is involved as the agent it doesn't always have to be about the one player. Look at Doherty leaving Wolves at that price and then look at what other Mendes players they were able to bring in after he left...i.e. Semedo, Silva, etc. I think it is part of working with Mendes. Sometimes you give up a player for cheaper, but he takes care of finding you other players. This is one of the benefits of Mourinho and his relationship.

Hes very good imo and will do very well in the prem if he goes, physical player very strong great hold up play good finisher, just doesnt our style right now as our manager prefers mobile strikers.

I think hes the next Jimenez, we didnt mind seeing Jimenez go as he didnt start for us but he has tons of quality, very similar situation here imo. Im jus a bit worried that if he does flop for whatever reason you lot will ship him back and he wont be worth anything.

Yup hes really good imo, very strong and as you can see he put amazing numbers on very few starts, i was ripping my hair out when he was left out of the team week after week. Good hold up play, can set others up, is a good finisher, he just seems like he would do great in the premier league. We are looking to sell cause our new manager wants more mobile strikers who can press with more intensity and hes since hes not starting it wouldnt make sense to have him losing value on the bench.

Yes he is, he is basically an target striker. He as a great physic, he has a lot of efficiency in the box, is good sorrounded by players and can run with the ball. Is just that we need an striker who can in, JJ words "Atack the space", like an second striker, and for that we have Waldsmidt and Darwin, Seferovic (You can buy him) and Ramos. So for 35/45M you get a excellent backup striker to Kane,

He has been more impressive then Jimenez ever was for us and look at that guy now... there is hope.
I think he would be a very mediocre starter, but very good for a back up striker, to come in late when you need a goal or to fill in for Kane in the cup games

Some Benfica fans opinions on him(y)

is this what our special relationship with Real was meant to be like?

Although, in fairness, Real have been a lot nicer to us recently.

I asked my Benfica supporting friend what he's like and he said this. I take them not being happy as a good sign if anything. At least he's happy with Otamendi :ROFLMAO:

Minutes wise he only played 19 league games last season and scored 18 goals. Seems really efficient goal scorer, could be a good off the bench goal threat if required too.
