I would have preferred a loan within the PL or to the Championship. I’m assuming there just wasn’t interest or he may have been too expensive.
If I was a Spanish international I would not be interested in a loan to the championship or lower level prem team. He needs and deserves a chance with us or a loan to a champs league club.

And yet he's going to a mid table Spanish team. Fair enough, he's better than the Championship, but a loan to any Prem team would be more advantageous

And yet we’ve had zero indication that there’s any prem team that wants him and would give him significant playing time, so it seems pretty academic

Honestly I'd love for him to go to a team like Brighton on loan. I'm convinced that working under a manager like Potter would do wonders for his development especially in this league. If only there was interest from them.

I don’t think it matters if he goes to a Spanish or an English team. He just needs to have plan of what to develop physically and in his game. I doubt we will let him go until we buy another attacking player

Get him on the Sess bulking programme
Seen a few people say this. It all comes down to Gil really - does he want to put the work in to get stronger and prove himself in the Premier League, or is he comfortable with the type of player he is now? At the moment, he's on the fringes of the Spain team, is a top tier La Liga player, and obviously the pull of staying in Spain would be strong. I hope he does choose to bulk up, as I think he's very talented, but there are a few things he needs to work on before he realizes that ability here, end product being another one.

If only we could have got Norwich or a Fulham Interested in him. A season in the championship would have toughened him up I feel. He needs minutes in order to develop. Sending him to Spain won't help us other than if we want him sold. After half a season with us it's just too early to be selling him already. Find him a decent loan in the championship. Where he will get minutes.

He should prioritise:
- end product
- variation in his game (left footed, left winger, is a bit one dimensional)
- beefing up (a bit)

….in that order

Why would he come here if he's happier in Spain though? I would think he will want to make it here

Yeah, fair point. I'm just speculating here, but moving to a different league is one thing, but being told you have to rework your game and your physique in order to have a chance to play is another. Could be that he takes on the challenge enthusiastically and wants to prove himself. Could also be that he thinks 'nah, I'm okay with where I at'. We've seen it recently with lo celso where he obviously just felt more comfortable in the Spanish league and never really pushed himself up get stronger here. That said Gil is still young, so perhaps still mouldable.

He's talented, we should keep him, work on him and give him a chance, perhaps another 12 months. He's well liked elsewhere.

I don’t really agree that a full season in La Liga is of no value to us, in terms of him potentially playing for us down the line. At this age, playing 30 plus games, taking on responsibility within the team as one of its better performers and still being able to work on physical areas that our club tells him to, has massive benefits. It’s another year of growth ( metaphorically and hopefully literally as well ), and full games under his belt where he can continue to improve. Many Spanish players have come straight over to the PL and done well when they were a little more seasoned - Mata, Silva, Cazorla, etc etc

A full season for Valencia can still have a very positive effect on his overall development

Think he has got the skill to be a no.10 in the Bernardo Silva mould.
Needs a bit of beefing up but could be something to persevere with.
