Who’s watched him then? How did he play? Any thoughts?

Yes i did. He came on around the 65min. Up until that point it was 0-0, spain were probing but not creating a great deal overall.
Within the first 5 mins of him being on he helped them to create 3 good chances. He took up some fantastic positions and although he ran into a blind alley on one occasion he was very much on the front foot, directly challenging his opposite man with tricky footwork and on 2 seperate occasions he took up a great position in the penalty box but was ignored. For sure he added something different to the team.

Hes a great young talent, hes quite pacey and makes his opposite number work hard and contributes alot defensively. I said previously he reminded me of di maria in style and i stand by that. Hes clearly well grounded and a real hard working team player rather than a tricky forward who trots about.
Would be interesting to see him on the right cutting in with his drive. His footwork is great and has that knack of keeping the ball and finsing a pass in tricky situations.

I can see why the fee was what it was. I said he will be a key player for us by xmas. He would offer more than stevie (right now) and moura with his ball retention and the way he always wants the ball.

Son-------Kane-------Gil

I think this will be a great blend if it happens.

Kid looks like he has good potential. As long as he keeps developing and produces end product, this could be a shrewd signing.
Looks like he plays as a traditional winger, but very keen to see how he would develop on the right cutting in. With his quick feet he could create a lot of space for likes of Kane (yes I am clinging on to him staying one more year) and Son.

Out of the players we need out the club I never saw Lamela as a major one, or minor one. Hope he does well.

TBH I think there's definitely a point of view to be had that one of he or Lucas needed to be moved on. Perhaps it'll turn out both are moved on who knows?
IIRC Lucas still has a fair chunk to run on his contract so perhaps that made it more flexible in bundling Lamela into any potential deal?
If it's true NES prefers a smaller squad (which I'd have thought he would prefer more numbers with the club having European football) could even have come down to who's more likely to be unavailable to him throughout a season due to injury? I thought Lamela started struggling last season playing weekend then midweek, unless I'm confusing him with the injury GLC picked up.

Bale was the most exciting signing since VDV even though just on loan. The pandemonium over that was unreal. Fans turning up outside the Lodge chanting his name. How often does that happen with a signing?

These signings are just different because there's the thought of how good they can be. Still exciting but not the same level as signing an already top class player.

Surely Don deserved the plaudits on this one?

Spoke to a Spanish friend about Gil, who told me he was the best player by far in a struggling eibar side last season at 19- carrying them
Also that he’s in the same bracket as Pedri (albeit in a different position). Couldn’t understand how traore was in the Spanish squad ahead of him.

Apparently, we’ve signed a great player in the making.
Considering we were suggesting signing pereira from wba, I think this is a different level above.
very positive
