Every ITK always said that this deal would be hard to get across the line. For my part I am happy that we tried to do it. The key, and very positive takeaways for me that should resonate with people as to why this is different than past misses...

1. We were willing to make a serious effort and get agreement with Juve
2. The star player was willing to come here

For me the second one is really the key to why we will make this type of move in the future and it is not business as usual. It's just more of an odds game as we won't get them all. It's not same old Spurs and Levy. There are legitimate reasons for big players to consider us now that didn't exist on a consistent basis previously.

1. Great Proven Manager
2. Great stadium and grounds
3. Deep team that has talent to win
4. Money from CL, Stadium, and TV rights that did not exist previously
5. Consistent CL

Literally the only things we don't have right now that other top teams have are...
1. Willingness to overpay salaries
2. Recent trophy history.

I think both of those things will improve in the coming years. Not all top teams have what we have right now.

Until a fee can be agree with Juve why would the image rights people even talk to us? Maybe the legal issues just got more and more complex the more we looked into it? Maybe goalposts moved and the figures were just above our limits (i.e. wages went above Kane).

I don't really think we can knock the club on this one, as tempting as it is to have someone to blame. I'm looking at Dybala's old agent/Star Image to be honest.

I just can’t fathom how it progressed so far without someone realising the image rights were more tangled than the plot lines on love island.
