CONTROVERSIAL OPINION:-
Had Paulinho played instead of Mason this season, he would have scored 10+ goals.

I don't think he is a bad player, just not quite as graceful as you would expect a Brazilian international to be.

If Paulinho had played all season instead of Mason we wouldn't have finished 5th. You cant finish 5th playing with 10 men most weeks!

I'm sorry, but when and where did he show glimpses of brilliant skill, because I'm really struggling to see when this was.

When he first joined us
I still remember Alan Shearer highlighting Paulinho's midfield play and touches early on in the season. He then scored a couple of times - one a brilliant flick to score from a low cross.

But yes, these moments where few and far between so I can see your point of view.

Got to love opinions.
How anyone can have watched Pauline stroll about, then how we looked with Mason and come to the conclusion we'd have been better with Pauline is truly mind boggling.
Each to his own.

Surely no-one has? Only that Paulinho when he first arrived was a very good player.

Edit: Ok, didn't see that "Controversial opinion" post at the top. Whilst we 'may' have scored more goals via him, I think we probably would have lost more games, such was his apparent lack of motivation.

Yeah, it's such a sad. He was starting to look really good, still wondering what would've happened without his injury..
He looked world class that day until fucking charlie adam took him down. Never looked as good as he did that day, but I still think there's a player in there we could use. Hope we don't cut him loose this summer.

I think Paulinho could be a useful player elsewhere but not in Pochs high press hes just too lackadaisical and fuckin loves to pass sideways and backwards. Mason may give the ball away a lot but it's because he's trying to push the ball forward and take some chances and there's no doubt he puts in a shift

Paulinho is more of a goal scoring threat if someone else puts him in a finishing position but he's not gonna beat or even take anyone on 1v1

He'd thrive in a tiki taka type possession based system he's more suited for La Liga or Serie A imo

He's another one who would do so much better in a MF3 where he would be free to push forward and support the front line. He doesn't have an ounce of defensive ability though which makes him a liability in a MF 2.

he's been no worse than Lamela and better value for the price, and brilliant compared to Soldado. he's just the latest scapegoat.

disagree Lamela has something you can see there is one hell of a player there its just will he be able to produce it.

I don't know I think Mason will score a lot of goals next year, the kid was a good number 9 and used to score a hell of a lot.

Lamela has all the right attributes which is why he is so frustrating... At least Lamela will put his foot in and try and make something happen. Paulinho reminds me of Sam Beckett from Quantum Leep when he gets dropped into an awkward situation... His face has that Oh Boy look on it like he doesnt know what the f to do...

Wonder what he's doing there because I assume they haven't brought him to actually play football

I forgot to post this quote from him I read a few days ago about sherwood (he doesn't even remember his name):

"I did well but then we had a change of coach as Andre Villas-Boas left and that Englishman [Tim Sherwood] came in.

"Then Mauricio Pochettino arrived and I did not play much. I only played a maximum of four matches in my preferred role and sometimes as a No.10."
