If we can't spend like the top clubs we need to go for more prospects like this guy & gil. Should buy 3 of them every summer
I agree it’s a nice concept, especially given how bad we are at big name signings (both getting them over the line & how the ones we do get perform). That said, The argument against that are signings like Clarke that looks to have pissed a year of Kane’s wages down the drain

Clarke put in two or three promising performances for Leeds, had some medical problem (don’t remember the details), and never recaptured his purple patch before we signed him. Very different than a player consistently being one of the top performers in his position over the course of an entire season in Ligue Un.

Didn't he have some kind of fainting spell during a match?

The cup and conference league matches are nearly every week until we’re knocked out of the competitions, though. Between midweek cup matches, substitute appearances, and covering for injuries, there should be plenty of playing time for our young talents.
Sure, especially for the young and raw talents like Scarlett - but guys like Gil and Sarr already have full seasons of senior football (in real leagues) under their belt. At a certain point games against Plymouth Argyle and FC Reykjavik won’t be enough for players to reach the next level, we have to commit to giving them time (or a loan if they really aren’t ready for us).

That's very fair, but I'm optimistic about our ability to integrate young talents this season. The Conference League is still a senior European competition, which any teenager would surely relish the chance to play in, and a signing such as Sarr or Moriba would have every opportunity to compete for first-team minutes.

If we have a young talent whose performances warrant notice and Lo Celso continues to vastly underperform, or if Dele's brother turns up, or if there are any injures, there could well be minutes to be had in the first team. Same goes further up the pitch, if habitual underperformers Lucas and Bergwijn don't find more consistency and Gil plays well in his midweek opportunities he'll be knocking on the door.

Consistent game time in cup matches and the prospect of potentially displacing more senior teammates would provide both an opportunity and an incentive for our youngsters to strive to find their best level. For me this season is a good opportunity to bring in young talents and really give them a shot, but they've got to earn it with their performances.

Hopefully he can grow into his body a bit more, coz he's a bit on the skinny side still IMO. Very young though, so I'm sure it'll happen - same as Dele.

Sarr, like every other similar signing, is a gamble. He looks a proper player. Puts on some muscle and he'll be a handful. I'd take the educated punt as well. Another year in Ligue Un where he will play, week in and week out, is best for his development.

Slamming Clarke, seems a little unfair. He did really well, which was why we took the punt. He was supposed to return and get similar chances. Unfortunately, he was not the only one signed for the position and the senior players, not unexpectedly, got the minutes. Since then, he has not been given a lot of minutes. Kids need to play. He is still very young. Injuries/medical issues notwithstanding, he has some ability. It's only with a serious run of games that he will be able to showcase what he has got.

It is so difficult with kids. Different paths suit different kids. Some need step by step. Some are better in and around the first team, even though they will not play. Some need to be thrown in to the deep end. Others still need that pressure of now or never to finally get the bit between the teeth. And, then there are the vast majority who have hit their heights and what you see is what you get.

Edwards was the next Messi. Parrott was going to dethrone Kane. Scarlett is the next incarnation. Skipp a future top captain. John, Markanday, White, Cirkin, Lavinier, Paskotsi, Solberg etc. I have no clue which players will succeed with a long term career at the top levels of football. They all need to keep taking that next step. Some will skip steps. Others will be two steps forward, another back. So much has to do with the playing time and the faith their coaches have in them. A huge factor is their environment off the pitch. Edwards and Parrott, based on my reading of things, were living it large and/or in with the wrong crowd. I hope they both realize it is a profession.

Bale and Kane were not exactly being touted as the best thing since sliced bread when they were twenty. They worked, got playing time, and figured it out. All power to them. Just as many thought Naughton would be better than Walker. Or Routledge versus Lennon. It all needs to play out. When/if they are good enough, hopefully they get the chance and they take the opportunity. There is also the London factor. Young, in the big City, with lots of money (compared to others your age). Many just cannot handle it.

Oh, did I mention fortune and health play a part too. So many variables. There is oodles of talent in Spurs system.

Will watch with interest the development of Sarr in Ligue Un this year. Much as I did for Skipp and Sessegnon last year. Oh, and I'll also be watching Troy Parrott, who I believe has turned a corner. Much more complete, mature player. Step by step. This is why Thursday is sooooo important. Nuno needs to give some kids, week in and week out, that chance to take the opportunity. Conference League will allow that.

Wondering if the reason nobody knows if it’s a loan back or not yet is because we’ve left it open while we see if we can still get another midfielder in like McKennie - if not then we get Sarr now and he’ll get plenty of playing time, if yes then we leave him to develop (for a pre-agreed fee) and next season he’s a ready-made Winks replacement.

The kind of signing lots have been asking us to make for ages. Relying on our scouting and picking up the best talent from around Europe before even the big clubs in those countries do. The club have to hope one or two work out and be prepared to take a hit on those who don’t. Trust the scouts and decision making process and see what the results are. It’s not a one year strategy though.

Dragon has confirmed that we will be loaning him back. Looks like I will need to update my flashscore to follow Metz now

I thought Naughton was going to be better than Walker ?. So not going to say anything about Sarr.?

Great.

From what my client told me about him being a bit skinny, another year for Metz could be the best idea for now.

But we do need another CM for now. Possibly a ball player.

Well you’d bloody hope so, doubt a plasterer or insurance broker would be much use.
