It wasn't a lack of desire tonight , it was competitive spirit. I dont believe the players believed thay could beat Chelsea.
I've played and seen a lot of football to accept how to lose. What I struggled with tonight is not competing. We lacked ability that was clear and we had players missing which didnt help. I dont understand why we couldnt compete at some level. We were so disjointed, unbalanced, flat footed and slow- it was embarrassing. Glad its over bring on Arsenal.

It was in the first half. Complete lack of desire and intensity right from kick off. So many times this squad of players has let us down & not turned up and tonight is just another example
It’s not a lack of desire but a lack of quality tonight.

That winks through ball to Kane summed it up. As did Doherty running down blind alleys and losing the ball. As did Gollinis mistake.

The players were trying, i fact they had 3 big decisions not go their way and were 3-0 down on agg and still kept trying.

The attitude was fine , they just were good enough but that’s nothing new

Sums it up, players just aren't good enough, no lack of effort or commitment.

Yea if they had started both legs they way they started the 2nd halves in both, might been different. Don't understand the slow start. First leg prime example Tangana with sloppy pass and Royal sitting anticipating. Need to be switched ASAP not half way through game.

The best example of the difference in mentality between Chelsea and us is in the highlight video @5mins30secs

When Gio is taking that freekick that skims off the wall, look at Azpicluetta just behind the wall. Looks like an absolute prick, but he doesn't give a toss, all he wants to do is stop the ball from getting through on goal. That's the intensity required.

We're too laid back.

Called winners mentality our club doesn't have it and probably never will.
But what we do have is nice real estate and that's what we are about.

The lack of quality is obvious alright but in the first half there was no intensity or fight which happened for the whole of the first leg. It wasn't until the 2nd half that they finally started to properly compete but sure we're 3 nil down at that stage so way too late.

It's not just a reaction to last night or the last little while, and I accept it might just be me, but I expect nothing from these players except to consistently let us down. The only one who performs is lloris the rest have failed to turn up on so many occasions it's unreal. Could list the games but we all know the ones I'm talking about right back to the Brighton & Bayern hammerings towards the end of Poch era.

If we are to have any chance in the medium term then the bulk of the squad needs to be sold in next 3-4 windows otherwise we aren't going to achieve anything no matter who is in charge.n

The players do lack desire and we generally lack quality in depth.

The players have had it far too easy for far too long, they exist in paradise at Spurs which is a problem because there’s no hunger in paradise. We need players who are going to be trying to take all of the starting XI’s places, taking the sheen off this utopia the players live in because right now there are no repercussions and no jeopardy for stinking the place out.

Our players completely lack it and have done for years.

I watch the Liverpool players lose the ball and there is then 4 or 5 of them rushing to the ball to get it back. Ours just amble towards it hoping to get it back. Sometimes making no challenge whatsoever.

It’s not just tonight either. Think back to every time Spurs have let you down and you pretty much can point the finger at the players’ lack of desire to compete at every turn.

They just don’t have it I’m afraid. Poch couldnt get it out of them and neither can Mourinho. I really doubt there is a manager out there who could. There is just no desire, hunger whatever you want to call it.

Just a little bump in light of conte’s comments. I started this thread in January 2021. Nothing’s changed has it?

We know a number of the players are done. Dier, Sess, Lenglet, Perisic, Hojbjerg, Hugo, Moura, Sanchez, Tanganga, Winks, Lo Celso, Reguilion N'Dombele and Rodon

That's 14 players!! How do you shift all of them.

Forster as backup, Emerson, Porro, Udogie, Romero, Bentancur, Skipp, Sarr, Kane, Kulu, Richarlison and Son with maybe Gil and Spence from a loan perspective still have a role to play at the club.

Our players are getting away with murder in terms of underachieving and bottling big opportunities. And that's all because there is never any music to be faced when they do. Our chairman only ever looks at players economic values and never how they operate as players or team members, and actively sabotages attempts to root out the rotten apples for fear of red ink appearing in his ledgers.

By doing so he has fostered a culture that is the antithesis of a high performance environment and a winning mentality. And because he let the rot set in, the maggots are now eating away at the club. Levy is - as should be obvious to everyone by now - utterly incapable of leading our club to anything other than failure. For all his supposed cleverness, he is too stupid to understand what it takes to run a top football club. And that after 22 years in the job...

Fuck off Levy!

Insipid

is what I would call that performance peppered with moments of excellent individual actions

A team playing a stagnant, inflexible formation and there were some very slow actions of ball movement, from players we all know so much better. It’s the same outcome for months now

We can all see there is player dissatisfaction, frustration and confusion throughout this squad

Spurs scored through nothing more than individual talent pushing us over the line and conceded because there’s not a team giving 100 per cent, through things like poor focus, confusion, mistrust and a lack of good communication

It works both ways if we win a trophy with the players they get belief and their winning attitude strengths.

Also a lot of our players need an arm around the shoulder approach a la Jol, Redknapp, Poch, not: Nuno,Jose,Conte.

Their attitudes will improve when they enjoy the football they’re being asked to play and the manager creates a sense of togetherness like Poch did.

The only game this season I can say we gave 100% for 90 mins was the Man City game and that’s the one game we would have been happy ( ish ) to lose . You really couldn’t make this club up.

Half the team that played today weren't here when you made those comments.
It's obvious that no matter what players come in, the mentality stays the same. It's like it rubs off onto those who come to the club.

Big time. And that's one of the most concerning things. Wherever this 'just enough' attitude is coming from, it needs to get hammered out of the club.. fast!
