Going to have frontline seats and a big ol' bucket of popcorn for the no striker meltdown on here Friday. Exciting times.

It's not like he's been an ISIS soldier or murderer. He's played as an mercenary for Arsenal (which is our rival and opponent but not our enemy like in real war). If that disqualifies him from playing for us (from our point of view) it makes things too complicated and stupid. But, if he's the right player for us, all considered his latest performances, is another separate but important question..

maybe not, but as good as tbf

Just very underwhelmed by all the striker links. I get we are in need of one. But we’ve been here in the previous two seasons where we really were fighting for a top 4 place. We should have resolved the need for a back up striker for Kane in either of the previous two summers when the market is more fluid. Is our scouting network for talented young strikers so poor?

Rushing to secure an average over priced striker, not wanted by their current clubs, to temporarily replace one of the world’s best makes little sense for a club that doesn’t exactly splash the cash on player recruits. I’m sure we’re only looking for a loan deal; hence why we’re struggling to get one in.

Put simply. Making top 4 is less likely (sorry for being defeatists). Would prefer to wait until the summer, try and secure a highly talented younger striker and top draw CDM.

If I was Chelsea Id let us think we can sign giroud up until last knockings then pull the deal and screw us over. Even for that reason alone I wouldnt be touching this one.

The problem is, what highly talented younger striker will be happy to sit on the bench for every minute that Harry Kane is remotely fit? I'd also like to think Troy Parrott will be around for a while so we can see how he develops long term.

I just fail to believe that all top forwards have this defeatist mentality, surely they'd back themselves to either prove that theyr're offering more than Kane or that they can work with him when he's back. I dont think you become an elite player without backing yourself.

I agree, but it's suggested Maddison wouldn't come to us because we had Eriksen and his career has been all the better for it IMO.

Yeah I'm sure there's a lot of examples of that but we should still be able to find at least one player who is good enough to do that roll for us. Nobody else seems to have this issue, that Minamo (im probably butchering his name) decided to join Liv despite Salah playing in his position and all other prem teams have at least 2 strikers who are both first teamers.

Minamino's going to pick up a EPL winner's medal in a few months time. I think we just need to pick up a stop gap 2nd striker until Troy Parrott takes over the baton (fingers crossed).

Ornstein has just posted this:

Further to Charlie Eccleshare’s post and related to Simon Johnson’s, my understanding is that Tottenham’s desire to sign a striker before the window closes is now unlikely to materialise - unless they can secure a deal for Olivier Giroud. And with that there is a problem because I’m told that, despite mixed messages on this in recent weeks, Chelsea will not let Giroud go without securing a replacement. If the Blues do get somebody in, things could get tasty because it is suggested to me that they would not block Giroud from joining Spurs. Giroud would seriously consider all options - including Tottenham - provided he gets the move he has been craving for the past few months, since it has become clear that he is not part of manager Frank Lampard’s plans at Stamford Bridge.

Probably been mentioned already, but I'm not reading back to check. So we're essentially waiting to see if Chelsea buy Merthens which will make Giroud a cast off for them. Mad thought, why don't we just buy Merthens, similar age so won't cost a packet and you can't argue with his goal scoring record.

Because Mertens is neither Premier League proven nor is he a target man we maybe should be after.
