Jamie O'Hara is not ruling out securing a permanent switch to Portsmouth after joining on loan from Spurs.

The Spurs midfielder will spend the first half of the season at Fratton Park

in a bid to gain more regular action.

O'Hara, who should make his debut against Bolton this weekend, is just happy to be playing first-team football again.

The 22-year-old is tied to Spurs until 2013, but has failed to rule out staying at Pompey permanently should the opportunity arise.

Play

"Obviously that's what Tottenham want me to do. They want me to play football," he told Sky Sports News.

"On a personal view I just want to play. Whether it's at Portsmouth or Tottenham I just want to play football.

"If I'm going to be playing my football here then that's where I'm going to be playing my football."

Pompey have made a dreadful start to the new campaign and O'Hara, who is one of 13 new faces at the club, believes they will turn the corner sooner rather than later.

More time

Despite the heavy influx of new talent at Fratton Park, the Spurs loanee believes that given a little bit more time Paul Hart's

charges will soon climb the Premier League ladder.

"The manager has brought in some new faces and I think we've got a base now of a team and we can start getting some results," he continued.

"Once we start picking up some results we'll start flying up the table.

"It's difficult for new players coming in, but obviously there's quite a few new faces so it's been a lot easier because you're all new to the club and helping each other out.

"I think all the lads have settled in quite well and we're just dying to get out there now."

Phew. I got worried when I saw the title there for a minute, but thankfully its taken completely out of context of O'Hara's comments.

Plus he just signed a new contract before he left.

I Don't personally ever see him becoming a long term first team player for us, with that in mind if he can achieve that status at pompey it would probably be better for his career to stay there.

Staying there would be better for his career, but unless we sign a great CM who can both cover and play alongside Palacios, Jamie would be pretty useful to our squad. I hope he'll develop there like Milner has at Villa.

So what is it you want to do, Jamie?

Just a reminder that Jamie O'Hara was the only member of our squad to have actually said he would want a move if he wasn't playing football this season. That was back in April.

Still, I like the lad. He may not be as 'commited' and 'Spurs through-and-through' as conventional wisdom dictates but he's a good footballer. Fair play to him for being honest.

Do you have a link for that?

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Huddlestone?

Signing a new contract is good business sense by Spurs which will mean if he is sold his value in the market place is sustained by the length remaining on his contract.

Additionally, if Ohara asks to make the loan permanent he cannot have his conract cancelled and have compensation paid by our club. The ball is in his court, so to speak.

I can fully understand his comments and agree with the fact that Pompey will probably be a better fit for him.

If I was in his shoes I would push for a permanent move because when he comes on for us he tends to come onto the left side of midfield. Now we have Krancjar there I think his options will be even further limited with us. Also, Krancjar can play equally aswell in the middle of the park and with JJ to come back JOH will not get much playing time this year if he was still with us.

It will also provide a good opportunity for us to make some good cash from him. He is going to want to play his socks off at Pompey to make sure he is a regular fixture for them so if this happens and they want him permanently then it leaves Arry and Levy in a strong position come transfer fee time.

We'll see if he wants to stay there when they are rock bottom at Xmas, he'll pay for his own taxi to bring him back to the lodge.

Clever move by Harry, as i reckon pompey will play him in the middle. With regular football he could develop into a great understudy to palacios. Big ask but its not impossible.

Would be great all round if he stayed there-we could get a bit of money for old rope and then, when they get relegated, he'll be playing at the right level.

my thoughts too

O'Hara has great commitment and determination but overall he's a mid-table midfielder with decent skill

I must be tempting when a player goes on loan. He's playing, he's wanted, he makes new friends etc etc, but I hope O'Hara comes back to us as he is a good squad player.

He is a good squad player, a hard worker/good technique etc a nice option to have off the bench and to cover the first team.

However his chances of becoming a first team player with us are slim and getting slimmer (in my opinion) what with the signings of Palacios and Krancher.

You could argue that for the best interests of both the club and his career it is time to see what happens with him on this loan.

IF he shows he is a premier league player and develops his game a great deal with regular football then he should come back and fight for his place in the team. If he does not show signs that he could make it with us then it would be best for him to stay with pompey (or move on elsewhere) so that the role of squad member can be assigned to the next promising youngster to see if they have the potential to go further with us.

Otherwise O'Hara will be stunting his own career and standing in the way of youngsters beneath him out our club by being further development (potentially) that a player with the ability to reach greater heights (should he have been given the opportunities O'Hara has had etc.
