I'm not sure what worth there is in quoting this summers signings when our problems are pretty widely thought to have started before that but what interests me more is why you've left out the summer of zero, you know, the summer we made footballing history by signing absolutely nobody, an act of negligence bordering on the staggering.
It was pretty widely condemned at the time and those chickens are coming home to roost, the effect of that fuck-up should not be underestimated.
The point I was making when highlighting the 2017 window as well as the one just gone is that we do spend money on incomings, we just didn't the summer 2018 when ultimately the Grealish deal flopped.
Liverpool this summer went out and spent £1.2m, do you think people will hammer them for doing so? There's a new feeling in football that you need to spend and you need to spend big to freshen things up, I personally don't believe that's the case but each to their own.
In the 2017/18 window we signed 6 new players (Lucas, Aurier, Sanchez, Foyth, Llorente, Gazzaniga), this season we've signed 4 so 10 new signings across 3 seasons including that summer where we didn't get Grealish, I actually don't think that's bad at all.
We do have to remember as well that in 2018 when we were trying to sign Grealish for £25m, that someone at the club chose to pursue the Aston Villa man ahead of Lo Celso and Maddison who both agreed deals for similar amounts as well. The money was there so who do we blame for focusing on the wrong targets?
