As an Australian who has been involved with Australian football at the top level in both journalism/TV and and administration, let me say that it is almost impossible for any Aussie coach to reach the FC Twente/Sampdoria/Auxerre level of coaching unless they actually played for these clubs. That is what makes Ange's achievements up to now so special. No club in Europe would take the risk one someone like Ange precisely because he is Australian and has only coached in Asia.
In fact, I'm struggling to think of anyone from the entire Asian Confederation that has coached a top team in Europe, and the AFC have produced quite a few top players. (I'm open to correction).
So, Tottenham Hotspur with another trailblazing first, a manager from the AFC in one of Europe's top 5 leagues and with a top club.
Yeah I can definitely see that being the case. Do you think one of Europes second division clubs would’ve also had this attitude, though?

Would both be absolutely brilliant in a big Ange 4-3-3.

Would be very interested to see if it is Big Ange how he and the new DofF plan to re-shape the squad, also will he keep Mason and Wells on, I hope he does tbh as that could be a really nice combination.

Mason is pretty level headed, could provide invaluable opinion on where things have gone wrong etc.

So I have a Celtic mate (I know I know)..

He’s convinced a striker like Kane won’t work with Postecoglu’s system. Says he likes a fast, agile and hard working CF that will press like a maniac and we’d be better off selling him and building a young energetic front line. Will be interesting to find out what we do here
If only we had got Lautaro when we had the chance.

But then you’re talking about him taking a massive financial risk by moving his family to Europe while his getting paid much less than he’d be earning in Australia.

I do worry about this appointment. even Gerrard managed to walk the Scottish league but got found out in the PL. I wish Ange the best of luck if he’s to be the one levy goes with. I just can’t help but wonder why we are over looking managers like Nagalsmann and Enrique who will have more pulling power when it comes to top quality players.

Long rant....fully understand lots of people are worried about Ange P getting the job, but can't understand some of the reasoning. Being Irish, working in construction management, you inevitably end up with lots of Celtic mad mates, clients and staff.

This narrative that his teams are clueless defensively.....Celtic had the best defensive record in Scotland last season, despite Joe Hart. They conceded heavily against Madrid in Champions League, but overall their defensive record wasn't too dissimilar to Juventus, Barca, Ajax. They take risks on the ball, but he's not an idiot, he wants to win.

From speaking to people who travel & watch Celtic religiously, attend corporate club functions, have met Ange, directors & staff, this guy is a serious manager. Apparently he's a bit of a strange character, not very charismatic, can be very blunt & dour at club functions but very intense about his football. Someone completely driven, has unbelievable ego/belief in what he does. Celtic people are convinced he'll manage Man City after Pep (City Group directors, especially Marwood helped him get Celtic job).

Celtic is a pressurised job, big fan base, big expectations, media coverage. Every game is a cup final for the opposition. The league isn't the best, but it's not the Dog & Hound league or the equivalent of managing in League 1.

Mate asked John Kennedy what Ange was like outside of football.."f*cked if I know, we only talk football". Staff love him, but are always on their toes, he pushes everyone & is unbelievably demanding. He's as far from Nuno as you can get, he believes he's as good as anyone.

Watching Spurs has being hard going for a while, I personally can't wait to see what this guy achieves. Proof will be on the pitch, but for the 1st time in a long time, I am actually excited for Spurs future.

Celtic/Liverpool fanatic (will never understand supporting 2 clubs) said he expects Ange will connect with the history/values of Spurs, similar to how Klopp embraced Liverpool.....who cares if he's 3rd choice.

Can we all agree with the fact Nagelsmann going to PSG with Henry as his assistant means he was definitely not right for us at this point in time?

That's such a weird duo :ROFLMAO:

Can see him flopping there tbh.

If he couldn't handle the dressing room egos at Bayern - he has no chance at PSG

Comparisons with Gerrard are lazy. It was clearly his assistant driving that and Gerrard only got the gig because of his playing achievements

Ange has done everything the hard way, succeeded everywhere he has been.

We have asked the club the be brave and this is a very brave appointment, the fact he has always been in the conversation is a good sign too.

Imagine, you know, this works. Because it could

I really like the signings he made for Celtic and the fact he wants the youth set up to play the way the first team plays so anyone that steps up knows the patterns. I really hope he gets the chance here to sign the players he wants and uses the academy players he wants.

I really like him. The more I read and hear what he has to say I think he will be a breath of fresh air.

It's the recruitment aspect that I'm really intrigued by.

Do you think he's only been appointed because he won the treble?
I don't, but I think there are many factors at play here.

He's just won the treble and has had success at other lesser levels.
He appears to be a good coach and man manager wherever he has been.
He plays front foot entertaining football.
He's charismatic which will help with the press.
He won't have crazy player demands.
The fans will like him as long as he gets results.
He is known by Munn.
He is represented by Caa Base.

Now you can shuffle these around into whatever order you like but I would bet you a kidney that every single point above contributed to him being appointed if/when it happens.

Just a little snippet about the process from Prof replying to a poster saying Ange was 3/4th choice.

The part in bold doesn't match the information that's been shared with me. Because we spoke with Nagelsmann when he unexpectedly became free part-way through the evaluation process, doesn't mean he was preferred to either of the top 2 choices (in fact, any of the top 4 choices) that emerged from the selection process. The info I was given about the outcome of the initial selection process was #1 = Slot, #2 = Ange, #3 and #4 = current or former PL managers.

Slot and Ange have similarities that have been discussed to death in here but just glad we stuck to our guns (if true) and picked a manager based on style of play rather than "the best name". To me, it shows they actually read the brief they put out 😂 😂

For sure but these are the the kind of risks you weigh up in a lot of careers. Would obviously never criticise someone for putting their family first by taking guaranteed higher income and not uprooting your family instead of a riskier move abroad with a potential higher reward and better career progression.

Can't wait for Big Ange... Been watching all the video clips of him over the weekend.

By the way... I preferred Home and away to Neighbours 🥳🤓
