Good evening, The Trix.

Yes, we finished 8th and are about to appoint a refugee from Ramsay Street as manager.
Bit harsh on the refugee bit, obviously in denial still!

You are missing the bigger picture , this is indication of Daniels plans - we are going to be hosting some Australian Rules Football!

Just listening to the (very interesting) podcast interview with Ange that someone posted earlier and he really does give a strong impression that he's someone eager to take on new challenges and keep on stepping upwards.

Talks about how his family (wife and 2 kids) are basically all-in on his career and happy to move wherever it takes them. Touches upon how his long term ambition was always to work in Europe and at the highest level possible, while also bringing up finances a couple of times, which would obviously be a huge draw at Spurs. If anyone is thinking that he might still opt to stay at Celtic, I'd be very surprised after listening to this.

Also puts into context just how hard it was when he arrived in Japan and had an iffy first season. Not a single player in the entire squad spoke a lick of English so every single speech, 1-2-1, everything was all done through multiple translators and he basically had to re-learn to communicate and adapt his methods to suit a completely new situation. Makes me feel a bit better about that one dodgy year he had there, as he basically lost his strongest weapon - his communication - and yet still was able to succeed.

Another thing that gets me excited about Ange is that I think he’ll take the domestic cups seriously 🤞
I think the biggest difference is he will be humble and has to prove himself here so will have that hunger. The last two mangers did not need to do that and never demonstrated they were fully into us.

For all the talk of stepping up to the Premier League he will also have much better players to work with
I'm looking forward to see attacking football again and a manager with something to prove

That would be refreshing. The last time we had a domestic cup run that seemed intentional (excepting Jose's run to the Carabao final where we had a bye then faced Chelsea + two sides from the Championship) would have been losing to Chelsea in the League Cup semi in 2019 - oh, and losing our last four cup finals in 2009, 2015, 2019 and 2021 makes us just that bit hungrier for a cup, I think.

As for Postecoglou in general... Probably not even a podium choice for many fans, but if he can deliver on his apparent preference for attacking football then I think the players will buy in and adapt quickly. Natural pessimism as a Spurs fan says this won't necessarily result in a dramatically improved performance points/position-wise next season, but if there's progress on the pitch then I think most fans will be happy enough given the largely stodgy football for the last few years.

I'm mindful that the club said when Conte left that the new appointment would be made post-season. It seems clear they were hoping that Conte was the problem, and that Stellini/Mason could at least keep us in the European spots. It was a big gamble, and not exactly Levy's first of the type as has been well discussed. This season it backfired on him, and we'll now see the consequences of that. However, it may also indicate that they expected to appoint someone already in work, who wouldn't want to leave at that time of the season. Postecoglou's name has been in the mix since early on, too. At the very least, that gives me more hope that the club saw him as a suitable (if not first choice) candidate from day one, and this isn't another Nuno situation despite the myriad similarities between this search and 2021.

On the plus side, no Europe means we have midweeks back pretty much all season long and Postecoglou (it appears) will have more time to work with the team. Given his seeming intent to revamp the way the team's been playing, and even allowing for Mason loosening the shackles a bit over his time in charge, that seems like a good thing. On the down side, 5-6 fewer home matches and less TV revenue/prize money to help keep the coffers topped up, so I don't look forward to seeing how Levy ekes out the difference from fans.

If Postecoglou is the new manager, he has a lot of work ahead of him. Hopefully the deck-clearing he was involved in at Celtic has prepared him for the bloat our squad has accumulated over the last several years, quite apart from all the on-pitch stuff he has to sort out.

So had Pepe Mel, means nothing.
But he didn't do well at those clubs like Poch
I know it's twitter but hopefully the mods won't mind me sharing as it isn't gossip but I think a really good point.

Clearly another point missed

The problem isn't that those managers aren't talented or have a lack of CV, they gained the necessary CV before making the next step up. Potter didn't go from Norway to the PL, he went to Norway then the championship and then Brighton, then he went one step up too quick in Chelsea.

Di Zerbi had overachieved in the 4th strongest league with a small team(who only got promoted seasons earlier) having achieved the clubs highest points tally and nearly got them to Europe missing out on GD by 2 goals.

Out of all the candidates, Ange is vastly the least known/experienced in the highest level. You are asking him to make a step up of several levels. Celtics current team would be a championship team, it's not of a PL quality.

Well other than Glasner, this wasn't really to worry about was it?

They seem to listen to Record on the Celtic forum. But yeah I agree, I’ve seen a compensation mentioned a few different places but I don’t see why there would be one.
Martin O'Neill previously spoke of having a 12 month rolling contract with Celtic, contract was set that he always had 12months remaining. Dermot Desmond wanted assurances O'Neill couldn't walk out on short notice & O'Neill was guaranteed at least a year's pay-off if sacked. Contract value renegotiated end of season.
Not sure where or who confirmed Ange P is free to walk this month??

He certainly does have an eye for a player too. When he got the Australia job , he scouted nearly 40 Australia connected players youth academy to pro football .
He scouted our own Luongo when he was at Swindon Town on loan. As most know, Luongo was a starter under Ange in national team and he repaid the faith through 2 big goals in Asia cup including one in cup finals against S Korea

His appointment should be great news for likes of Skipp Sarr Devine . If he can survive & make his job safe the youth prospects will get a pathway to first team football

Would you really be more accepting of Ange had led Genoa to 12th place or got Coventry in the play offs? He has smashed it at his first European job you can't ask anymore than that from him

Saying Ange doesn’t have experience at highest level does a huge disservice to his achievements

It’s very very hard to break the glass ceiling being the first one. You can only show case your ability with opportunity you get

Taking national team to World Cup in Brazil , Asian Cup and a Confederations cup is a huge experience in itself. He won one of them in Asia cup , finals Sonny scored and Koreans were desperate to win.
Nearly won against the Dutch in World Cup giving them a scare, and a very commendable performance against far superior group teams in confederation cup

All these ups & down are also experience

Most here wanted Slot who till date haven’t had a down phase … no one knows how he will react when things don’t go his way.
Lets not forget - when we got into CL final in 2019 , Slot didn’t even managed one game in pro football

So let’s keep the context relevant when comparing managers.
