You think Lewis Dunk was seen as a player with any of those qualities 3 years ago?

Systems are everything, and elite coaching makes players that would otherwise never get a second look seem like rock stars. Look at how many Brighton players move clubs and underwhelm.
Nice post. Reminds me of how so many players under Poch at Southampton went for silly money only to disappear from view

Maybe I’m giving to much benefit of the doubt and looking naive, but I think Arne Slot was the number one choice all along but the Nagelsmann business muddied the waters a little bit.
It’s no coincidence we’re hearing this right after Feyenoord have won the league.

This has moved very quickly tbf. We were def still talking to agents and reps of other candidates over the weekend. Maybe suggests we have a DOF lined up as well and he's given his go ahead for Slot?
I saw in one of the many many many stories linking us to Slot, that he would like a good deal of “control(apparently he has at Feyenoord)
Maybe he has requested to be involved in the hiring of the DoF.

Put me on ignore then, it's quite easy. (y)

I'm just tired of seeing negativity day in and day out about any little thing to do with the club. I see it in all walks of life now. A&C posts LOL and a few react like Slot has fallen through when it was just a LOL.

But anyways, if it makes you or anyone else feel better I'll just lurk from now. I am reasonably positive about the club at the moment (I know I'm in the minority). I think with Munn, Slot and a DOF we could start something new and fresh. It could fall apart, or it could be like Poch and be a joyous ride.
No, don't do that. Keep posting. TPdYID decided to throw a wobbly on Sunday and left (although I think he's lurking still also).

We need the positivity around here, that's for sure.

Whoever we hire as manager, they should be announced Mario Kart styliey on our new kart track. Levy could hire some plebs wearing masks of all the managers we have been linked with and the winner being our new manager.

Why do clubs spend so much money on buying players then? If systems are everything and all you need is an elite coach, you don't have to spend a lot of money buying players.

I've heard Levy plans to announce the manager followed by his retirement, then start singing "I did it my way" by Frank Sinatra out in the centre circle. The fans will all light up their phones and sing along with him. It's going to be a magical occasion.
Ha ha 'myyyy waaayyyy. Thank you, right i'll go and get the man you are all here to see...' Levy goes down the tunnel and then comes out on the pitch in a wig and different jacket 'im very pleased to have been made manager of this fantastic club..'

The recent Athletic article on Slot paints the picture of a manager very much in the mould of Poch in 2014.
His positivity seems exactly right. I'm sick of managers coming here that feel like they are doing us a big favour.

Nothing finalized. Still plenty to discuss and agree; only a few potential larger hurdles, however it only takes one of them to trip us up and we'll have to return to the candidate list. Nothing to do now but wait

Why look for a manager before hiring a DOF?
Because Munn is running football matters so whether it's manager or DOF they will need to align anyway. We've had Arnesen leave for Chelsea and Paratici banned so no DOF is certain anyway. As long as we have a system in place and a clear strategy it doesn't matter. If a DOF or manager goes we go and replace with someone else who fits.

One of the many risks a scout needs to look at is if a player is:
a. Overperforming in a system he isn't suited to (I.e. a player like Kane who does well no matter what)
b. Underperforming in a system he isn't suited to, i.e. could do well in a system more suited
c. Overperforming in a system he is suited to
d. Underperforming in a system he isn't suited to

For example, I wouldn't touch any current Feyenoord player as I believe they are already at their ceiling. However, let's say you could get a player with a higher ceiling that suits the system our coach wants to play. Or a player who does well no matter what, like Kane.

Then you have Brighton who are an example of a club with a structure and system that is highly optimized, and getting any player from there is a gamble. For example, Bissouma looked like one of the best midfielders in the league there and while the jury might be out due to there being question marks over his suitability for Conte, we haven't seen much of that player since he left there.

Systems and the right fit aren't everything, but they account for a hell of a lot of what makes a player and team click.

“A few potential larger hurdles” haha I shudder to think what those could be between Slot and Daniel.

- can I have a say in transfers? erm, we’ll think about it
- can you stop the “club signings”? Na… I love it
- can you force Harry to stay? Well… money talks in this business
- can you stop this player committee stuff as it would undermine me? Well we kinda have it in the canteen together over breakie, so tough one that…
- can you withdraw Dier’s contract extension? Arne mate, he can play CM, CB and RB, it’s like three players in one!!
😂

I'm definitely into Slot's Attacking Football and Player Development.

But I am not feeling as positive as others, as he has no Champions League experience and the Dutch League has a knack of delivering as many hits as misses.

Ten Hag isn't exactly delighting at United.

He could be the next Van Gaal or De Boer/Koeman.

De Zerbi is my preference, now JN is out of the running.

Won a trophy, starting to ditch the egos, will probably finish T4 in his first season. I'd say he's done a decent job considering how much of a mess they are.

Also, we don't need to worry about CL experience next year :cautious:
