Shows how difficult it is to keep up the pace if you're not owned by an oil state.

Everyone was praising Liverpool's recruitment strategy up to last season and now they're getting criticised for not refreshing their players quick enough. Which is mainly down to the fact they are run sustainably and can't blow man city money on the squad each summer.
Its also a natural end to that team. Every team goes through it eventually. Signings can mitigate but its virtually impossible to not have dips eventually. Will happen to city too.

Do you have the data behind that?

I'd be interested to see if it has fees for porro, or kulu. If they are down as loans, then the numbers will look skewed.
It doesn't. And during Conte's time we have signed 14 players only if we also count Alfie Whiteman returning to the club from loan as his signing :ROFLMAO:

And if it doesn't, then they've just not included romero for 50m for either conte or nuno.

I think they have spent more City in the last three windows

Have to say I've been reluctant to sack Conte but after Saturday I can't see any other choice. As someone who would like Poch back I dont see why we dont just bring him back now

Levy needs to clear the deadwood before the new manager comes in....... We all know how long that takes.

By the same token you can't tell me not to challenge what I consider to be misleading data on the same forum.

Data's my day job. Raw statistics can be interpreted in different ways to support different viewpoints.
I didnt say you can’t challenge it - I said you can’t tell me what to do - very different things.

Yes I think we'll get a Keeper, centre back. I'm not sure about an attacker though. Think that will depend on what happens with Kane and what the new manager wants to do with Gil, Lo Celso, Ndombele.
Fair enough. However will they be of the right quality/profile? Or will we just buy a CB that doesn’t compliment our current players.

If Poch doesn't come back now, I cannot really see when a better time would be for him. He should be fresh and has the basis of a good squad.

I think keeper and CB needs to be absolute priority. That's on the club to sort out as soon as possible.

If we get that covered then a lot of next season comes down to individual performances....Son, Kulu, Bentancur, Porro, Romero, Udogie....if these players can perform to the level we know they are capable of, and the mentality of the team is correct, we could be in an ok spot......that's a massive if though.

Most of us want a coach who plays 'front-foot football' possession based and I totally get that.

But we also need a coach who is going to make us a team that is the sum of it's parts where noone is above it or an immediate starter every week.

I think Jose and Conte have had 2 or 3 untouchables and either built a system around them or made them key players inside that system.

Son's lack of pressing and ball retention would not be tolerated by a coach who favours 11 players fighting.

Kane would have to press from the front but wouldn't be dropping deep to link play all the time. He'd be told to stay in the front line and when he can drop.

I think we've got away from that and whilst I don't think these players are shirkers, they have kind of outgrown the bare necessities of team work.

Its another reason why I think Amorim or Gallardo are perfect for the job. If not, De Zerbi.

I'm in this same boat. I saw some say he should take the last 10 matches on an interim basis, and I would say he'd be crazy to do that. Anything can happen in 10 matches under a new manager/system and it could be a very bad look for him.

However looking at the list of available managers, and I believe I saw others say this, I think the managers that are available currently are just as good/if not better than some that may be available in the Summer on paper.

Poch, Tuchel, Gallardo, and Enrique with no/little competition compared to Amorim, Ange, De Zerbi, Glasner, Kompany, Frank, Rodgers - I just keep thinking back to the Nuno summer where we were linked with some good managers, and we kept moving down the list. Unless the board ALL think one of the managers that are at a club currently is the absolute perfect fit, I think we're just as fine to look at one of the currently available managers - let them settle in at the end of this season, and hit the ground running for next.

Fantastic stat on sky sports
mourinho - £131m spent on 10 players

nuno - £57m spent on 5 players

conte - £192m spent on 14 players

that means the average spend per player is - £12.75m

keep changing the manager all we want - but as much as conte is the issue - don’t expect us to challenge with that sort of per player spend

for comprison - arsenal is £22m per player

Man City is £30m per player
Man Utd is £40m per player

just a bit of light reading!

Interesting, but I would say wages would be a much better indicator. As well as removing non-first team players.

That doesn't account for Fabio being Mr Free Transfer

I don't care who we get as long as they fit these criteria:

1.) They are young(-ish) and forward thinking
2.) They aren't married to a system
3.) Have a proven record of making players better
4.) Isn't overly stubborn and so learns from their mistakes

4 is hard to pre-empt or measure, except in the case of Poch. It's the only reason I don't want him back, and I love him. He would unite the club, galvanise the team, get us playing better... oh fuck it, let's just get him back.

Assuming Mason is interim, for next home game vs Brighton. Can whoever had the big Poch flags bring them back, maybe crowd could influence the Board. I know it’s polarising, but I think most fans would take him back
