I can't believe this to be honest.

A bit shit luck with the year Antonio has had but have to say I'm fuming that we finally get a "in their prime" serial winner in, show signs that we'll follow his plan, then immediately start retreating away from it at the first signs of rough roads.

Yes Conte didn't commit long term, but there's fault on both sides to blame for that.

As huge as a Poch fan that I am, I just can't see it ending too well unless we clear out some of the aging talent in the squad and give him a blank canvas to work with young and hungry players.

Sure Poch may deserve better than that but it's the blueprint that worked before and with Poch you can't have 7-8 of the 11 working hard pressing and the other 3-4 slagging off, which is what I still pinpoint to the downfall in the final season.
I agree totally with regards to changing the mentality and becoming a winning team. In terms of Poch I do think we'll be OK with the workrate, that side hasn't been an issue under Conte. It's whether they can keep the ball as well without Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Dembele now. Bentancur is a massive loss as is Bissouma who would probably suit him. Also we need to switch to this front press which takes time after being defensive for a few years. At least it wpuld be better to start that transition now and not the start of another season. Also on the plus side Poch is going to love working with the likes of Sarr and Skipp. They will get more minutes even when the others return. I'm just going to try and be positive about it and fool myself that we'll be back to our best again. Might as well.

I never knew we wanted Gallardo before? I thought it was just hearsay/fan talk. I live over here in BA, albeit being a Sanlo fan Gallardo would be great for us. His River side were magnificent and fantastic to watch.
Yes, it was in the media. I believe it was before Nuno was appointed he was on the list.

My biggest worry if Poch comes back is that our record of buying players while he was here was absolutely abysmal.

Also, the idea that the likes of Dier, Lloris, Davies, Winks, N'Dombele etc will get clean slates yet again just thoroughly depresses me.

Having said that there are a lot of potential upsides, it would be great to have a manager who actually looks like he wants to be here for a start.

If Poch had done what he'd done with us with another club we'd want him

yeh if he had gotten West Ham, Newcastle or Everton 4 CL spots and a CL final then yep.

Issue is can he repeat the magic and will Levy/ENIC back him or do they just see him as a way of covering their arses.

Poch needs hard working young players to make his system work effectively. That means hard choices with the likes of Son, Dier, Davies even Hojbjerg and Kane. Will the club properly buy into and also will Poch accept a DoF and scoutings helping to drive the squad building.

If he comes under the agreement of a Sporting Director then it isn’t an issue. In fact even with just good scouts that shouldn’t be a problem. While he must have input it should be the Sporting Director/scouts driving the squad building and not Levy/Poch.

If Poch does come back I wonder how we line up? Does he try some version of the 3-4-2-1 he used in 16-17? Something like this until Bentancur is fit:

New Keeper
Romero New CB New CB
Porro Bissouma Sarr Udogie
Kulu Son
Kane

He was forced into more of a 4-3-3 at PSG but I suspect that was simply a way of getting Neymar, Messi and Mbappe into the same team and not sure he'd want to use that at Spurs. He also used a 4-2-3-1 so he might try something like:

New Keeper
Royal Romero New CB Udogie
Bissouma Sarr
Kulu Kane Son
Rich
Just wonder how the hell we get any use out of Porro in a back 4. Trying to play both him and Udogie as conventional full-backs is just asking for trouble. Same with Spence.

Also, as others have said, how much pressing are you really going to get out of a 30 year old Kane, a 31 year old Son and Kulu who, for all his effort and ability, isn't exactly the most mobile, lithe wide player.

Whatever happens no fucking diamond. Please God.

Part of the problem for me is that there just aren't a whole bunch of exciting, available coaches out there. Nagelsmann would be awesome but he won't come. Potter would have been intriguing but not now he's been down the road. With some of the other suggestions language would be a significant problem. The De Zerbi fella seems to be doing quite well but how long's it been? Has he done enough to think that he could transfer it here? I dunno. This is the strength of the Poch candidacy. In the absence of any truly outstanding candidate Poch represents a bit of stability, a bit of familiarity and a bit of positivity. Every appointment is such a gamble. There are no guarantees. We saw with Nuno how quickly a manager's authority can collapse. If not Poch then we need someone who's going to come in and rev everyone up and convince the lads that they are a team capable of making the CL and pushing on to challenge for the title. Poch had that in spades.

And this right here is everything that is wrong with the club. At this point if we are about to move Conte out whilst still in competitions, there shouldn't be a favourite for the job. There should be one already sewn up and waiting for the inevitable to come to pass. Especially when he's not currently employed.
In whihc case why not just sign him up now and the do the necessary paper work and compensation for Conte and his team ? What is holding that process up ?

I would be fine with a Poch returning if:

1 Levy wasn’t using this as a means to buy off fans
2 Poch was in a proper structure and we hire good scouts and a Sporting Director if Paratici is off.
3 club and fans buy into the vision and even if we come 10th one season continue to back it
4 Poch comes here with a clear 5 year min plan

Levy and the board I just don’t trust their reasons or methods. If it was less cynical I would be really excited to see Poch back. I mean we have Conte and still a crap backline. We don’t look like a elite operation at the moment at least on the pitch.

If Paratici goes we would do very well to secure Michael Edwards, ex-Liverpool. Brought in Mané, Wijnaldum, Salah, Van Dijk, Fabinho and Allison so knows how to rebuild. Plus recruited for an attack minded coach, which is what we all want here.

He's worked here before though so probably knows how we operate and therefore would stay well clear.
