The worst part of Goats post is that we still haven't decided. Unforgivable to still not have a clear choice. I would no doubt be more confident to get someone who has managed at a higher level to Ange. However he's still an interesting option and we should know by now who we want.
I don't think it says that to be honest. The Slot failure shows the value of talking to backups in case it falls through.

Would we even have spoken to Ange himself yet? He's focused on the Cup final. We've clearly talked to his agent.

I hope the rumour we’ve spoke to someone else is either not the case or timeline wise it was simply Luis Enrique earlier in the week. We need to set our sights on one man now and stop pissing around. If there’s a strong enough belief Ange is the right man then just get him in so we can get moving. We can’t keep messing around because that’s how you end up missing out on more managers and end up with Sharky McSharkface because there’s no one else left.

I hope it is. If we didn't have a back up then it would be pretty stupid from the club.

Either way, it seems we will know next week. So then the moaning can really begin!

Okay well I’m going to believe that the someone else is Gallardo and that Levy will see the light and go for him. Why you may ask? Because today Im choosing to live a fantasy world where money grows on trees, people shit confetti and Spurs are a well run team with a visionary in charge.

Sadly I feel this dream will be shattered shortly when I go for my mid day bowl movement.
Do you move saucers as well?

Prof on COYS (obviously nothing new)

Gawain and Guinevere are confident that we're making a strong push for AP. Then again, Guinevere and Galahad were certain about Slot being the #1 choice (which proved to be spot on) yet the board wasn't able to get him signed. Within a few days we'll know whether an agreement can/has been reached.
All I can say to this is 'Ni'.

But he said "although Matilda is still the likeliest to waltz through the door, it isn't decided yet". That doesnt suggest we are talking to back ups in case Ange doesnt happen. It suggests we're still not certain he's our next choice.

Indeed, but when he stepped up successfully in Japan, he did so in his second season.

In his first season, he took a team who had never been out of the J1-League to within a point of the relegation play-offs and within three points of relegation. In part, because only two teams conceded more goals than his team did.

If his learning curve is of a similar ilk here, we won't get to see him step up in his second season. Chances are we won't get to see how he fares with rotating for the third round of the Carabao Cup. He'll be out on his arse before you can say 'Taramasalata'.

Look, I can see his appeal. He has charm and he plays attacking football. But that's not enough for me. And I don't think it will be enough for a querulous crowd and a lily-livered chairman if we start shipping goals at home. Big defeats at home did for AVB and Nuno and they'll do for Ange too if they happen, no matter how engaging he is.

To be honest, I'm not completely sold on Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique either. I just think both would have enough top league experience to navigate the choppy waters that any manager new to the Premier League is likely to face. I'm fearful, based on his J1-League experience, that Ange may not.
Agree. Was having the same thoughts re defence after I read up more on his time in Japan which in some ways more relevant than Celtic. I honestly don’t think we are remotely comparable a club to Celtic in regard to their status and finances within the league. I would also have been really curious to see how well his team would fair in the Europa league

Anyway although I’m probably more convinced of Nagelsmann than you I pretty much echo your sentiments completely. Great post.

I've completely fallen for the idea of an Ange and Mason dreamteam.

I was already watching loads of YouTube videos and reading nerdy twitter threads but I listened to the fighting cock last night and Mark Nesbit sold me on Ange being better than even Nagelsmann

I really hope it comes off this week. Would love to feel a bit of positivity.

Nor should we be if we've not spoken to him directly yet.

Given that the man himself says that he hasn't spoken to anyone, and that his agents know better than to bother him with anything while he's preparing for a cup final, I don't think it suggests anything at all. If we haven't spoken to the man, how can it be decided that he is coming?

This Ange guy must be the least top flight experienced coach we’ve ever considered. Big balls if we appoint him based off Australian and Scottish league football.
Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkenshaw - but they never achieved much…

I really hope Mason moves on and tries something different. As much for his own sake. I think he really needs to get more long term experience as a manegr to implement his ideas. A stint in the Championship could really benefit him.

I did too but Ange seems to like using existing coaches and I think Mason would get a really really big role in the day to day coaching under him.

I'd love for them to have a conversation and see if they think they could work together.

You honestly don't think we've spoken to him yet? Slot said himself that managers always talk to other teams. We would have spoken to him before he met with Feyenoord. I'm sure we would have spoken to Ange too. It happens all the time. The thing is you couldn't really get anywhere if you didn't. Technically you shouldn't talk to someone under contract but how would you ever talk to someone if you have to agree with their club first? You have to talk first before deciding if you want to make a formal approach to their club.
