Yeah fingers crossed.Obviously possible but he comes across as someone who really backs himself so I could see him thinking he'd succeed where others have failed.
Either way, time will tell.
He was our choice for a while, how much longer does he need to wait? We clearly didn't show we wanted him enough. Why should he then hold out for us in that situation and piss off his fans? He would be pretty desperate doing that given he was still in a good job.
I think the real danger is apathy and empty seats, rather than fan protests. I also think most fans will give him at least half a season. Nuno was a bit of an anomaly because he showed no real passion to be here. He'd talked about taking a break from football after being burnt out at Wolves and just didn't really want to be here - which came through pretty clearly.Queue then, the Levy out chants at every bad moment, fan protests on a scale not seen before and I daresay, at that stage, perhaps even visible empty seats at the stadium.
You’d have to be a right weirdo to have knives out for a manager straight away. I find it amusing seeing some posts on social media from people who can barely construct a sentence suggesting they have a deep knowledge on who is right or wrong for the job. It’s been said many times before but one of the biggest issues with Twitter is it gives really thick people a platform to be really loud.
Think if we bring in Ange we need to hold our nerve. Celtic had a dodgy start under him and I can see it being the same here.Let's be honest, it would be a rather underwhelming appointment. Having said that, and before I go on, I stress that I'd give the guy a proper chance and don't want him to fail. Obviously.
Unfortunately though, a Postecoglou appointment would be toxic at first and would need a really good start. That's because fans would inevitably be severely frustrated with the appointment and they would be frustrated not with Ange, but with Levy.
His pressing game would need time to implement and the first few months may be tricky. Queue then, the Levy out chants at every bad moment, fan protests on a scale not seen before and I daresay, at that stage, perhaps even visible empty seats at the stadium.
That would leave the club panicking and perhaps Ange shot of confidence.
So my guess is we are heading for another horrendous disaster, not because we are above Ange or because I don't think he's a good manager (I don't really have an opinion tbh, haven't seen enough of his Celtic side), but because of what's gone on before and because the fans are already past breaking point with old Baldilocks. When we appointed Conte, I said it would either make or break Levy. I can't see any point of return from here, unless it's instant success. And no manager can bring about a change of style and instant success.
Sorry to be so pessimistic, but that's my honest evaluation of how things will go.
I think he is one of those guys that has been linked to us from the moment he had Hull playing slightly nice football,
So it’s easy to chuck him in there.
And the attempts to get the likes of Nagelsmann and Slot have been such a failure, that the club has seemingly had to start the whole process again. He was on the shortlist for manager of the season I think? So wouldn’t be surprised if he was discussed. Although if you’re not gonna pay up for Slot, good luck poaching a premier league manager.
I would be surprised if those meetings were done early on in negotiations. We were linked with Slot very early on and he was reported to be our top choice. I'm sure the financial were discussed for weeks leading to the meeting and we had set in stone what we were willing to pay. Maybe Slot could have pressed for Feyenoord to drop their demands and maybe thats what he and his agent did in the meeting. They didn't agree to let him go for less and then the next day they met and thrashed out a new contract. I think if it was say a Real Madrid then sure he would have kicked up more fuss. We definitely need to show more conviction to convince a highly rated manager. I just think its not as black and white as Slot didn't want to join.I dont disagree, but also if the fee is as reported I can imagine why we needed to have conversations about it. I do still think if he really wanted it he couldve agitated for it for a bit more than he appears to have done, and signing a new contract just means he was more than happy to torpedo it.
Yes he's in a good job but many think we should (or more like we do), have more pull than that, we're a "big club" etc. Just plays into the wider point i've generally been making that we arent that exciting a proposition for many of these names being banded around.
That's my point exactly though. The vast majority don't have any grit or nerve left. There's no credit in the bank for the Board and specifically Levy to work with. That's why it'll turn toxic so quickly.Think if we bring in Ange we need to hold our nerve. Celtic had a dodgy start under him and I can see it being the same here.
If there are any green shoots at all we need to just grit our teeth and ride out the storm, like Arsenal did with Arteta when they were thrashed in their first few games a few seasons ago.
Nuno was different cos there were no green shoots at all and the entire appointment was backwards. If we play some positive football and it looks like we're moving in the right direction, then I don't think it will get half as toxic as it has under our last 3 managers.
I think a few people on here mentioned having Celtic supporting mates perhaps they could help youCan anyone who watches Celtic regularly tell me how good Matt O'Brien is in real life? All I know is that I bought him in FM and hes been the heartbeat of my spurs team ever since.
I may well be gaslighting myself but I'm quite excited about Postecoglu. If it's a choice of him or Silva he wins hands down. Luis Enrique I'm not sure about but that's mainly because I have an aversion to glamour appointments. I was excited for Jol when Santini bottled it, was excited for Redknapp and excited for Poch. I thought Toby was a bargain who could do really well for us when many were against it. I didn't want Jose or Conte and I have been pretty vocal wanting Howe over the past 4 years, going against a pretty strong tide on here.
On the flip side I was super excited for AVB
I remember doing all the reading about AVB's "philosophy" and getting very excited. Looking back, the thing I remember most about his time in charge was getting regularly spanked by Liverpool. Can anyone who watches Celtic regularly tell me how good Matt O'Brien is in real life? All I know is that I bought him in FM and hes been the heartbeat of my spurs team ever since.
