Also, distinct possibility that in such a "small" industry the top guys would know most, if not all, of the top guys. Even if Munn was working mainly in Asia, my bet is he'd still have good knowledge of the best scouts and directors in Europe.
If we're moving to a data-driven approach in signing players, there's zero point in appointing the man in charge of that by just who Munn knows. There's loads of data sets of which clubs are getting most value of their signings. Apparently Levy's used consultants in hiring before, so would think this is the way they'd go.

Reading back Poks tweets a while now, it is suggested that we have had our DOF for a while and it was just a matter of announcing it.

With SNunn in today it feels like a clearing of the decks to announce the DOF shortly.

Whether that happens a few days before and away NLD is another matter.

This is O'Keefe's take on it.

Good as was worried because sounded like Gabbiadini has been very good and influential in unearthing gems like Vicario, Udogie etc.

I wonder if the new DofF if they’re not Italian will move away a bit from Serie A signings.

Will be a very interesting appointment and as long as they understand the true DNA of the club, the style of play we now have and want to keep and help continue a structure to bring in players to suit that both at youth level and for the first team then perfect.

That is extremely disappointing
Well not really if we hire a credible good fit DofF.

As POK said there is a larger structure in place so a restructure with a new DofF is natural.

Gabbadini did well but people in that type of role come and go quite often and he was Paratici’s man so phasing those people out was always a possibility.

As long as the new DOF sends recruitment video updates from his bedroom with his shirt half buttoned I’m fine with whoever we appoint

Why are people upset? Do any of us actually know all of the inner machinations behind our recruitment? Seems like Gabs is being hoisted on to a pedestal without any actual evidence that it was all 100% down to him. What evidence is this based on?

Right - but, in reality - you don't have to sack Gabbanini to bring in a new DOF, or even a new chief scout.

You simply hire the new staff, and change the structure so that Gabbanini reports to the new chief scout. If Gabbanini is a good scout - then you would always want his input - even if you want a new chief scout and/or DOF.

You don't get rid of good employees.

So, I am inclined to believe that something has gone on behind the scenes - maybe akin to insubordination upon learning of a new chief scout or DOF>
I dunno, to me at least, it sounds like Gabbanini is/was on the cusp of being a DoF, maybe we didn’t want to give him that chance.

Often it turns sour when it’s like that. Remember Sherwood when he felt he was good enough to be our manager? So many leaks leading up the the departure of (Can’t remember the managers name now.. 😂) that didn’t help the situation, could imagine it was a shit show of bitching and the manager being undermined internally.

Best for all involved to part ways now before the new guy is in.

On another note, I thought Gabbanini was doing well and those behind the scenes were clearly listening to him on signings it seems, so could be that Munn wants his own guys in charge.

On the one hand, this makes sense if we're appointing a new DoF; it's unsurprising that the new DoF would want to bring in their people. And, perhaps Gabbanini wants a bigger role than Chief Scout.

Also, it's hard to judge how well backroom staff are doing, hence the endless debates over who's pick various players are. It helps to get snippets from ITK and journalists, but it's still pretty opaque. Having said that, IMO our recruitment has been significantly better while Paratici and Gabbanini have been here, so this feels like a pretty big loss.

Ultimately, I don't know that we can really judge this until we know who is coming as a new DoF and new Chief Scout and realistically probably not until we've gone through a window or two with that new setup in place. However, this does make me nervous because we have had good recruitment recently.

The evidence is on the pitch. The new recruits suggest that someone was doing a good job - so why change?

And Scott Munn looks like a walking Wet Blanket if I may make so bold. He'd be perfectly capble of stirring up apathy and dampening down ambition all across the club - just the way Levy likes it.

What's Munns appearance got to do with anything? Totally unnecessary take I feel. He's clearly well regarded within the City Group, and generally success isn't dependent on appearance!

Exactly, he's not in a boy band or trying to be an MMA fighter, what the fuck does it matter what the bloke looks like?
He's a businessman so as long as his brain works well, I couldn't care less what he looks like.

Such a stunted and shallow view of life to hold.

Didn't Ange's right hand man at Celtic recently quit? Was his name Kennedy or have I just made that up?

It's like bringing in Ange and asking him to work with Conte's coaches because they are good coaches - it doesn't make sense

I'm very intrigued to see who the new DOF will be.

I reckon it will be someone totally out of left field who isn't well known.
