New Manager = new lease of life for squad players?

I know the whole new manager and transfers in and out has been done to death, and in numerous different thread this will have been touched on. So I spologise if it seems a bit repetitive, but think it warrants a thread of its own.

With a new Manager sure to arrive in the summer, this presents a massive opportunity for some of what we now class as squad players and deadwood to relaunch their Spurs careers. There is no doubt that we have some talented players who have either not performed or have not been given an opportunity to perform. You only have to see how well the likes of Pienaar has done out on loan to realise what he has to offer us if given a chance. Not 10 mins here and there, but a real opportunity in the team. Rotated with first team players when injuries, suspensions or fatigue hit.

We all know we need some rebuilding work in the summer, and hope that the likes of Caulker & perhaps Naughton can save us a few pounds in the transfer market. We'll also have Huddlestone and Dawson, two England internationals, returning to fitness. But who else, should the likes of Brendan Rogers or David Moyes arrive, might have something to offer us if given a fair crack of the whip.

Gomes - for me he will be moved on. Great shot stopper, but unreliable. Gone

Corluka - at one time the best "defensive" RB in the league, and had a great partnership with Lennon. But there is no arguing with Walker and Corluka wont want to play 2nd fiddle. Gone

Bassong - Formed a 'triffic' partnership with Dawson in season we finished 4th. Has great pace, but surpassed by Kaboul. Has potential. Kaboul Caulker Dawson Bassong next season? Maybe

Bentley - The single biggest waste of money ever. Wonder goal against Arsenal a-side, he's been awful. Too slow, bad attitude. Has to go. Gone

Jenas - Had a pretty good Spurs career, despite fans not completely loving him. Don’t think he is good enough for where we want to be, though perhaps a Moyes type player? Gone

Pienaar - Ryan Tegan let us know Pienaar was a player Harry really wanted. The never really gave him a chance. I think any new Manager would like to retain him. Keep

Kranjcar - Technically superb player but makes VDV look like Aaron Lennon when sprinting. There are better players out there to take his squad place. Gone

Giovani - For me one of the biggest disappointments. When he left Barca Henry said he could go on to become the best player in the world. But quite simply he's been awful. Some fans think he hasn’t been given a chance. I think he doesn’t warrant a chance. Perhaps someone like Rogers could unlock his potential? He's a better player than Dyer at Swansea. For me gone, but perhaps there is a slight chance something could be salvaged from him. Gone

We'll have Carroll, Kane, Townsend, Smith all returning from successful loan spells. We've seen glimpses of Lancaster, heard a lot about Pritchard and Coulibaly…….. And completely given up hope of Bostock coming good.

Be interested to know who others feel about our squad players and who might have something to offer us next season.

There's certainly a few in there who could re-emerge.

Gomes I'm sure is off. His contract is up at the end of the season and hasn't even been played as second choice. Shame I liked him a lot.

I think it's right that we develop Walker as our right back, with Naughton as backup Corluka is surely done. Good player but this happens sometimes.

This is a great opportunity for Bassong, Dawson or Caulker to claim a place. Kaboul is a main player for us now and we need to develop a long-term partner for him.

I think Bentley, Jenas and Dos Santos are finished. If Rodgers comes in then his style of football might suit Dos Santos but my guess is he's off. I imagine Pienaar will go back to Everton.

I guess we'll have another EL campaign to play the younger players like Carroll, Townsend and Kane.

Just on goalkeepers, I'd have to say, no.

We'd need to get rid of the oldies.

Having two old goalkeepers, one who is hardly used and had a bad break to his pelvis(?) is not a sensible strategy.

I completely agree. I'd get rid of all 3 goalkeepers if I am honest. I was trying to be more realistic, thinking that the work we require on our squad is too much to do in one window, and that we have GKs we can get away with, whereas we need urgent action in other areas. Midfield if Luka goes and strikers has to be our priority. If Caulker is as good as we hope, Dawson gets back to fitness and we have a manager that can utilise Bassong more than Harry did, we don't necessarily need much work there. We'd have to sign someone better than anything we currently have, which could be difficult.

Hoilett for buttons, Dembele & Sessegnon for £10m each? Joe Allen, if as good as his stats suggest, will surly be a target for Rogers?

IF finances are tight, and we literally have the money we generate in the summer to play with, I wouldnt be too disappointed with that squad come August 1st (not bloody August 31st at 11.59pm).

Afaiac, each and every player on our books should be reassessed my the new manager - even David Bentley.
Give them all a clean slate, assess them, get rid of those deemed susplus - we, as fans, should not judge any of those decisions base upon our preconceptions - even David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas

There may be some who are gone anyway, I don't believe there is a way back for the Octopus :)cry:), but that has to be the starting philosophy of manager and fans alike.
