Couple of more Winks and Kane's hopefully once we have the new ground.Maybe another Ledley King but what is important is we get that CL spot every season so we can keep the core of the team. The future is bright under Levy and Poch.COYS

I so want to believe we've got half a dozen players as good as Kane coming through the ranks but I'll believe it when I see it. In all the time I've been a fan only three have really stood out: Hoddle, Ledley and Kane. Without those three you're looking at the likes of Carr, Samways, Falco and Walker who did well but not to the same extent. Those are truly great players but that's over more than thirty years. If we could have another one or even two in the same team as Kane that would be remarkable and a big change from the rate we've produced great players in the past.

Although I agree with you in essence, I wonder how the likes of Carr, Samways, Falco, Walker etc. would have progressed under the current Academy.

Hoddle & King were IMO naturally gifted footballers and would therefore have flourished in any environment.

The list of players who supplied the first team over the years is very long. They don`t have to be legends, just support the cause when needed. Like Ifil, Mason, Bentaleb, Carroll and many many more. If you look at the likes of man utd, liverpool, arsenal chelsea they all have good academies yet none of them produce stars on a regular basis. If you can get one player for each formation from the academy then in my eyes it's a massive success. Right now we have Rose, winks, kane that are ours. 3/4 isn't bad.
Add to it the many millions the academy makes each year and we see a successful enterprise.

I'm not sure we can count Rose as one of our own; we paid Leeds a large sum for him as a 17 year old and he didn't really progress up through out academy like the others

I think this is a terrible article, no better than tribal football or sites of that ilk. Is this what qualifies for journalism these days? Tell you what, go into the youth thread and read some posts there, much more better and more informative than this tripe.

There's 2 types of players we need our academy to produce.
Ones that can come into the first team and produce the goods.
Ones that we can move on for decent money to build the club up more.

All things considered, neither are less important than the other.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Yes he came as a 17 year old, but we made him the player he is today. He played for the academy for many years before his big break. At first people actually said he wouldn't amount to much...

It doesn't have to be "players as good as Kane", it just has to be "players good enough to thrive in our squad".

The point isn't about stars, it's about populating a squad with capable, loyal players who are steeped in the club's style and ethic, work well as part of the team and feel they are part of something.

More importantly, it's about not having to blow £15m a head on players like that.

I agree. He also came to the club as a midfielder, I'm not sure how many other clubs would have suggested/attempted that transition

We should be very proud of our academy. You look through the leagues and realise Tottenham are doing things right with the development of player because if some might fail to establish within the first team squad many have moved onto other clubs and done really well. Hats off and hoping we continue to produce not only for Spurs but English football.

Yes he played for our academy and reserves, but that still doesn't put him in the same category as winks, king, Kane et al.

With regards to 'making him the player he is today' you could say that for a number of players in our squad. Don't forget that he spent a large part of his early career with us out on loan and this would have also influenced his development

And dier came to us as a cb but is now the national teams main holding midfielder.

Don't get me wrong, our club and academy are great at developing young talent but I'm not sure we can classify player like rose as 'homegrown' in the same context as winks, mason etc
