Who do you think was MOM tonight?

Hard to judge player ratings as I don't think the opposition was up to much, but here're my thoughts anyway:

Gomes 6 - Didn't have too much to do, looked alright but I still get nervous whenever he gets near the ball

Walker 8 - MOM for me, great performance. Hope we see him at RB for the whole season.
Dawson 6.5 - His first contribution to the game was a wasted long ball up to no-one...hope he stops doing that. Solid otherwise.
Kaboul 7 - also solid
Assou Ekotto 7 - good game

Lennon 7 - Looked much more of a threat tonight, hope he keeps it up
Kranjcar 7.5 - Good to see him get a full game after so long, certainly did himself no harm tonight. Hope we see him more this season
Livermore 8 - Also good to see him get a game under his belt, contributed well. Great goal.
Bale 7 - back to his normal self

VDV 8 - seemed involved in everything in the first half
Defoe 8 - Could this be the return of defoe? Looked very sharp.

Hudd 7 - only on for a short time but looking very good
Townsend 7 - as above
Pav n/a - not on for long enough.

I don't know.

All the young lads. So please put an option for all 3 of the young ones.

Niko for the 90 minutes but Rafa was our best player for the first 45mins.

Thought Niko looked great. But Hearts gave us SO much space in the first half.

Livermore, Walker, BAE, Defoe and VDV all looked good. Hudd was great when he came on.

Good all-round, professional performance but no indication of how we'll fare this season.

Still unsure about Gomes though.

Niko for the 90 minutes but Rafa was our best player for the first 45mins.

Probably this.
But I wouldn't get too carried away with Niko's performance, Hearts allowed him far more room than he will get in the Prem.

I've gone for Walker, Simply for his work rate. Its a toss up between about 4 or 5 players. Vdv was good, Lennon was extremely effective, Bale was dangerous, Livermore impressed me and Niko put in a good performance. Also on a plus note, I think this is the exact type game huddlestone will cherish this season. He proved he can be lethal given a bit of space. Great pass for the goal, albeit againt extremely poor opposition.

All in all I'm pretty comfortable taking that score-line back to WHL.

Can't decide. They all played extremely well. Maybe Lennon, VDV when he was on, Defoe looked sharp, Livermore impressed, Kranjcar very good. I actually can't choose.

Livermore did well, I voted for him because if I'm honest I expected him to be our weakest link.

Generally speaking it was a fine team performance, and we even weathered the storm early in the 2nd half to keep a clean sheet. Good start.

Defoe for me. Worked his socks off, seems to have regained his sharpness and looked alot stronger than we are used to seeing.

Chose livermore as he seemed well within himself and scored a good goal with great build up play.

All true...but he also showed, alas, that he is too greedy and takes to many have chances on when team-mates are in much better positions (otherwisse we might have really wrapped the game up tonight:grin:).

Gomes 6 - looking very similar to last season.

Walker 6 - Bit sloppy in his passing and positioning but he has great speed to get himself out of trouble when he makes an error.
Dawson 6 - Decent game again distribution wasn't the best.
Kaboul 7 - solid game.
Assou Ekotto 6- started off slowly but got better during the game.

Lennon 7 - pretty good game nice ball into Defoe for his goal and intelligent running to get on the end of Defoe's cross to score.
Kranjcar 9 - Played really well with Rafa in the first half, faded a little in the second but did enough to secure my MOTM vote.Good to see him get a full game after so long, certainly did himself no harm tonight. Hope we see him more this season
Livermore 7 - scored a nice goal but lacks a bit of vision and awareness.
Bale 6 - thought he had a pretty quiet game but still scored.

VDV 8 - lovely player with superb touch and vision.Looks like a world class player.
Defoe 7 - did well worked hard and made some nice runs.Great 1st touch for his goal.Nice to hear that he came back early to work on his fitness as well as working with a personal trainer in France.Very professional attitude after a poor season, lets hope this helps him have a great season.
Hudd 6 - one or two really lovely balls that set up a goal for Bale and a great chance for Lennon, still looked rusty and lost the ball in dangerous spots.
Townsend 6 - I like what I have seen from him, hope he gets plenty of chances in the Europa League.
Pav n/a but did zero when he came on.

Very tough, but went for Kranjcar in the end. He was pulling all the strings. VDV was very good too while he was on. Livermore impressed me too. Used his strength to shield the ball a few times. Lennon played well.......for once it's nice to be struggling to choose a MOM for all the right reasons!

Voted for VDV who was class in the first 45 and prompted some good
performances from Kranjcar and Defoe.

What was good about the 3 youngsters that played was that they didn't look out of place.

Thought about Kranjcar but he got a bit sloppy towards the end.
