Don't see what the fuss is about? Defoe and Adebayor retired in December and nobody said anything. :cautious:

He just tweeted his favourite games/goals

"top 3. 1. Argentina mazey. 2. Hat-trick against Germany. 3. Ruining Arsenals FA cup.”

:D

I remember all of those really well.

Felt for the poor guy leaving Liverpool for Real to "win the Champions League" and Gerrard and the boys do it first season without him. Ouch. Never listen to an agent, Michael.

Great goals, though. All the best, man-cub.

Remember him scoring in a Classico for Madrid, game was already won but still, it's something to tell the kids about.

He won 89 caps and scored 40 goals, but with a bit more luck with injuries he would've broken that 50 England goals barrier. Should probably never have left Liverpool, tbh.

I always found him itrritating and boring but he was a great player in his heyday and could have been so much more if it weren't for injuries and a few wrong decisions regarding transfers etc along the way.

Wasn't it a Ledley tackle that gave him that first bad injury? It was a clean challenge but he pulled up and from what i remember he couldn't carry on and that was the start of all his problems.

His first major spell out injured was just after he joined Newcastle when he broke his metartarsal against us. So you may be right.

It's a shame to see a very good player have such a fall from grace because of injuries. A mate of mine who follows him on Twitter (gooner fan ) has been telling me that he's been getting trolled a lot recently by some gooner muppet.

When he first burst on the scene was such a good player. Its a shame that he had hamstring injuries and lost his pace at a pretty early stage of his career, was still a really good poacher but had lost the ability to run at defences which put him in the top bracket of strikers.

Not many players like him about these days. Strikers seem to be moving towards the 'good feet for a big man' style these days and strikers like Owen, who used to go past defenders with his pace, are few and far between.

Never quite the same player once he left Liverpool. At one point he looked nailed on to become England's leading scorer of all time but I do now wonder whether that record will ever be beaten.

He was never the same player after the injury, but still, he gave the world this timeless moment:

A sad way for a great career to fizzle out. A premier league legend during his early years.

A super striker, seriously one of the best finishers England have had.
His main asset which was helped by his ability to finish, was his pace. Sadly after that goes in a tiny player, it's difficult for them to carry on, especially after so many injuries.

It's a shame the pace went, but I still thought he could have been a great striker if he'd stayed injury free. He always knew exactly how to strike the ball for it to go in - wether to thump it, place it, or just walk it round the keeper - there was never any panic.
