When I opened this thread it popped back to page 1. I wouldn’t say everyone was ecstatic but a lot of people were positive about this move. One issue was he was a RWB, not a RB. It’s amazing that now we actually need a RWB he’s seen as first to go. Don’t get me wrong he’s been awful but I wonder what has gone so wrong? Could there still be a player in there (prob no more than a backup option) or does Conte just demand so much more from a RWB than was demanded from him at Wolves (when they were playing well)?
Even a RWB should have some idea of how to defend.

Why can't we give this kid a shot at RB?

I guarantee he doesn't fair any worse than Doherty.

Not that it means a great deal in the grand scheme of things but yeah, thought he was fine today. Actually thought the dynamic of the right side looked a little better with him there. Made a couple of runs in behind and flashed a couple of decent crosses in.

for his standard was a quality cameo, but still a few dodgey clearances, passes to no one,

Best showing from him since probably his debut.

Yeah I mean respectfully to our other right wing backs Doherty offered more in terms attacking intent than they have in their opportunities under Conte but appreciate they've played in different circumstances but the fact is, Doherty played two balls which indirectly contributed to us scoring two goals, that's a positive.

In any event I haven't entire wrote him off being useful this season, though perhaps more to the point actually I haven't written Conte off trying to extract something out of Doherty this season. If anybody can do it, it's Conte.

Williams was giving Tanganga a torrid time (which rather surprised me) and I felt that disappeared a bit with Doherty replacing him, maybe just one of those "defend by attacking" moves where the threat of Doherty pushed Williams back more.

Didn't notice him or Williams much after he came on.

Given that Williams was absolutely rinsing Tanganga for 60 minutes prior, this is a very good thing.

I'd give Doherty the benefit over the doubt. A lot of players have looked awful in the europa scratch side. We will need him over the Christmas period.

I'm really hoping that performance was down moreso to the intensity of training through the week and players struggling more than anything considering players like Kane were also struggling, we'll see though.

Yeah I agree. I mean especially Tanganga, which is no great surprise really, but his forward movement looked more natural than Emerson's also.

I know it's a trend on SC at the moment to shit on Doherty whenever possible but I don't feel like I've seen him enough under Conte and in a system that he's actually well renowned for playing well in, to do the same, yet I also know 15 minutes (or however long it was) against Norwich isn't exactly enough to build up a great argument for him at the same time.

I wouldn't be against seeing more of him though. The other options haven't exactly blown me away.

Yeah completely agree, I think the same for every single player but that result against Mura just set off the forum to shit on every single player they dislike, we're still so so early into the Conte era, I have no doubt the team will look quite a bit different come towards the end of the season and regardless of whether you, I or anybody else doesn't think a players up to it they should get a fair crack at working under Conte who I think will need more time with some and not others to get them to do exactly what he desires, at least until the time comes where there's an opportunity for people to leave imo.

Thought he was alright tbh. Don't know how much of that was just in comparison to the shocker that Japhet was having, but looked alright to me. I still think he might turn it around with the right coaching.
