According to SI-CNN:

STOKE, England (AP) -- Mark Hughes returned to football management on Thursday with Premier League club Stoke, hoping to prove his critics wrong after a disappointing spell at Queens Park Rangers.

The 49-year-old Hughes, a former Manchester United and Chelsea striker, was fired by struggling London club QPR in November.

"(Stoke) have looked maybe beyond my last position and taken my career as a manager as a whole,'' Hughes said. "It was difficult (at QPR), mistakes were made. Certainly I made mistakes which I will learn from.''

Hughes was hired by Stoke on a three-year contract to replace Tony Pulis, who left earlier this month after seven seasons following a 13th-place finish.
"I have listened to what people have said as my managerial ability and I will use it as a motivation,'' Hughes said.

Hughes, who also played for Barcelona and Bayern Munich, will be hoping to revive his managerial fortunes, which have been patchy since making his debut in the dugout with Wales.
After playing 72 matches for Wales, Hughes took charge of his national team in 1999 and came close to reaching a first major tournament since 1958.

He left in 2004 to move into club management at Blackburn, transforming the northern English club from relegation candidates into a side that twice qualified for the UEFA Cup through top-six finishes.
Hughes was enticed to Manchester City in 2008 but, after a change in ownership to Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Mansour, he was fired the following year after failing to deliver a title despite more than $300 million being invested in players.

Hughes was back in work with Fulham ahead of the 2010-11 season, but resigned at the end of the campaign to "further my experiences.''

That turned out to be managing London rival Queens Park Rangers from January 2012.
After keeping QPR in the Premier League on the final day of that season in May, Hughes was fired in November after a dismal start to the new campaign that saw the club fail to win in 12 games. From afar, he saw QPR ultimately relegated earlier this month.

At Stoke, Hughes will be expected to carry on the work done by Pulis, who guided the team into the Premier League and stabilized them.

Despite an FA Cup final appearance in 2011, when Manchester City won, some fans had grown tired of what they considered a dated style of football and Stoke ultimately decided it was time for Pulis to leave.

Hughes wants to turn the team into a stronger, attacking force, but will not rush any changes.
"It's not a case of wiping away the hard work that's been put in place in previous seasons,'' Hughes said.

how does he keep getting jobs

It's one of the modern mysteries that not even science can answer. I doubt we will ever know in our life times to be honest as our brains have probably not yet evolved to a level where we could even comprehend the answer.

Could see this coming a mile off, they are perfect for each other. Hughes is just Pullis with proper clothes.

I posted on another thread about this sort of appointment the other day- I hate this manager merry go round crap. There are lots of good/promising etc managers out there but in the PL no club will take a chance on the managers in the lower leagues, but no, they just keep on recycling the same managers again and again. This is Hughes 6th premier league club as a manager...WHY? What has he done that warrants getting these jobs and the same goes for the rest of the clique that keep getting the manager jobs!!

Rant over :)

To be fair Hughes did a pretty good job at QPR and Fulham.

Man City is kinda mission impossible lol.

Hughes is a strange one. Not good but not as bad as some make out.

He did a good job at Blackburn but kept whingeing about lack of finances.

He was the wrong fit at Man City and was never the right man to manage one of the richest clubs in Europe.

Did a good job at Fulham but foolishly chased the money and went to QPR.

I've no doubt that managing QPR is a hassle. Many managers have failed there and Hughes spent a lot of money on mercenaries who didn;t perform. HR the Messiah didn't do any better though.

He needs to stop looking for clubs with money to spend. Everything I've read suggests he has good training methods and does well with players without a big star ego.

He'll probably do ok at Stoke then walk out and go to another club with more finances, fail then somehow get another job.

Don't rate him as something special, but I think he got a raw deal at both City and QPR. Mancini and Redknapp were hardly barnstormers.

£18m for Jo

Actually, I was going to list some of his bad signings at City and QPR but it will just take too long.

He was good at Blackburn and showed promise at City pre-megabucks.

His mistake was running out on Fulham. Footy is a team game and that kind of behaviour is hardly endearing. Bang went his chances of Man Utd or CFC. He didn't even get considered for Everton...

I remember when people wanted him to replace Jol. Those were the days.

Good ol' Sparky finally finds his level.

I'm expecting him to put a lot of effort into developing their elbowing techniques.

Im sorry are people saying he did a good job at QPR, what the fuck?

He made the worst team with alot of good quality players i have ever seen. Never has a team had so many players from big teams and been so shit. Also he is the reason they went down, he created the click in the dressing room by signing all the kia players, FFS!
