Tottenham are plotting a raid on Sporting Lisbon for Pedro Porro and former Spurs youngster Marcus Edwards... with north Londoners still holding a 50% sell-on clause as part of his deal to join the Portuguese side

  • Marcus Edwards left Tottenham in 2019 after only one first-team appearance
  • The English forward, 24, has racked up 12 goals and 12 assists in 39 games
  • Pedro Porro was formerly on the books at Manchester City but left back in 2022
Tottenham are to hold talks with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday over potential deals for Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards.

Sporting have so far been unwilling to sanction any transfer unless the players' buy-out clauses are met.

Porro, 23, has a £40million clause while Edwards, the former Tottenham trainee, has a £52m clause but Tottenham still hold a 50 per cent sell-on as part of his previous transfer.

I would personally love this transfer. He is exciting to watch when he has the ball we don't do exciting recently.

Should move to a team where he will start most matches. Not a pressing team either, his defensive stats are amongst the worst in Europe (or maybe precisely there to improve it).

Doesn't strike me as a Conte type player (too small) so sceptical about the link but I'd be happy if he came back.

The club’s approach to transfers just makes every scattergun rumour believable as long as it’s not a nailed-on improvement.

Would love Porro and Edwards would be 2 really good upgrades! But doubt Conte would go for Edwards as probably too small :( annoying as would help with our HG issue and he’s an absolute little baller would offer us great creativity we don’t have right now and can beat a man 1v1, exciting player too.

This sounds like a newspaper putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

We have already had more than one itk saying we are not interested in bringing Edwards back to the club.

I wonder if Edwards is the kind of 'unfinished' player Conte was alluding to? Doesn't seem a Conte type signing. I wonder what Poch will make of him if he returns?

I could see Edwards as similar to Bryan with more of a goal threat. He certainly caused us problems.

Does that mean we could essentially get him for 26m then? Pay his release fee but get half back. Not sure how this works when you sign a player back and have a sell on clause. It feels more like a negotiation tactic to get them to drop the asking price of Porro. Either drop the price for Porro or we activate the release clause of both Porro and Edwards.

Interesting as the journalist isn't quoting Portuguese papers. First time we have had that I think.

Personally I think it is the wrong move bringing these two in but what do I know. I would prefer Anthony Gordon to Edwards but I can see why financially we may go for our ex-player.

Gordon would cost £50-60 million which would be crazy money to pay for him. I'm not sure how good he is. Even Everton fans I've spoken to don't seem totally convinced.

Edwards would fit better in that his best position is cutting in from the right on his left foot like Deki. Good dribbler, low centre of gravity and great agility so brilliant in tight spaces but can also find a pass.

No he had attitude problems, which he still has. Been told numerous times he's still turning up late for training and not doing what is expected of him on the outside. The fact they were offering him back to us tells me everything I need to know.

No way Gordon. Edwards miles better. I am not sure about others - I happen to watch lot of his games in last year . He has improved incredibly well. He now uses his weakness as his stregths. His lack of physically means, he is now moving the ball much better, protecting the ball much better and learned to bounce off defenders and still go on.

I would be more than happy to see the double deal happen. It kind of fixes the right side and also ensures we have a good handle on Homegrown counts - but I am not sure on how he will get on with us after leaving in somewhat bad way
