Sevilla thought they had their replacement for Ivan Rakitic all tied up according to the Spanish press earlier this week. Rakitic has been so important for the Spanish side over the last year, he really took on much more responsibility following Sevilla's sales during the last summer transfer window and he'll be a huge loss to the football club .

Sevilla are aware of this and had been working to try and bring in a replacement fast, the man they were targeting is Marcelo Brozovic who currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb. The 21 year old was close to a Sevilla move, report Spanish newspaper AS on Thursday, but he's now further way... and that's thanks to Tottenham.

AS say that the Premier League club have made a 'gran oferta' for the player , that means a big offer. AS don't seem to think that Sevilla could compete, despite getting good income from their Europa League triumph and also having the cash from Rakitic's sale.

It doesn't mean that Tottenham will certainly be the player's destination. Whilst Brozovic has been away with the Croatia World Cup squad , AS explain that another Spanish club have also made a move, but that club is unnamed.

Dinamo Zagreb's sporting director Zoran Mamic was quoted by Sky Sports this week as saying "I don't know what's going on. But I know one thing: so far our club didn't get any official offers for him."

Those quotes were a few days before this Tottenham move was reported.

I can't look at the AS report because I'm on my phone, did they actually say it was us that made the 'gran oferta'?

my croatian informant says not good enough.

That's the belief of many (particularly fans). But a lot of people (in the football world) rate him highly. There's a reason why Sabatini and co. (for example) have been following him closely for a while now. He's very highly rated in Italy. Not "Kovacic high", but he's seen as a modern midfielder (can play both ways, runs for days, good on the ball, link-up player, quick transitional play, etc.) with good potential. I know that Italian clubs/scouts have had him on their books for quite some time (he's been playing regularly in the 1.HNL since he was 17-years old).

I had to defend him on numerous occasions when he first started out at Dinamo (in conversations with Dinamo supporters). He does a lot of (good) things that go unnoticed and then an errant pass gets magnified to the max. He has his weaknesses, he's still a work in progress in some respects, but he has a lot of positives to his game. He was the star of Croatia's U21 side (managed by Kovac), and he's improving.

He's at his best when involved in the build-up. Can spread the ball around pretty well and plays at a quick tempo. Kovac likes to use him further forward and for the U21's he scored a lot of goals. But otherwise he's usually played a little deeper (either in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3). All-round central midfielder. His link-up play/ability makes him valuable and coveted. Is he ready for Spurs/EPL? I'm not convinced. Is he "good enough" to one day? I believe he is/will be.

This guy could be an astute signing and has great potential. Is there any news on a fee?

Zdravko Mamic today said/confirmed they received a 4m euro bid from Inter which they immediately rejected. Says they are not interesting in selling and only an "immoral offer (very big offer)" would temp them (whatever that means, but he always says that).

Reports out of Italy recently were claiming Dinamo is looking for at least 6-7m euros + bonuses (or % of future transfer).
