Sevilla thought they had their replacement for Ivan Rakitic all tied up according to the Spanish press earlier this week. Rakitic has been so important for the Spanish side over the last year, he really took on much more responsibility following Sevilla's sales during the last summer transfer window and he'll be a huge loss to the football club .
Sevilla are aware of this and had been working to try and bring in a replacement fast, the man they were targeting is Marcelo Brozovic who currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb. The 21 year old was close to a Sevilla move, report Spanish newspaper AS on Thursday, but he's now further way... and that's thanks to Tottenham.
AS say that the Premier League club have made a 'gran oferta' for the player , that means a big offer. AS don't seem to think that Sevilla could compete, despite getting good income from their Europa League triumph and also having the cash from Rakitic's sale.
It doesn't mean that Tottenham will certainly be the player's destination. Whilst Brozovic has been away with the Croatia World Cup squad , AS explain that another Spanish club have also made a move, but that club is unnamed.
Dinamo Zagreb's sporting director Zoran Mamic was quoted by Sky Sports this week as saying "I don't know what's going on. But I know one thing: so far our club didn't get any official offers for him."
Those quotes were a few days before this Tottenham move was reported.
