Our squad is bloated and there doesn’t seem to be any indication of when fans will be allowed back in stadiums. I’m sure if we didn’t have to factor in these issues then I’m sure we might try and sign him.
I'd tend to agree with this. It's not going to be a popular opinion and it doesn't detract from the fact that more quality needs adding to the squad but realistically, the current economic situation doesn't lend itself to dealing in what is a terrible window at the best of times.

I don't think he is available in the winter simple as that for all logical reasons.

- Leipzig are firing in all competitions looking for the first trophy
- he is their captain and an important guy for the squad
- Leipzig is not in any need of selling anyone
- We won't pay stupid money for someone in his age under the current circumstances when it can takes ages to get full capacity back

One for the summer surely and a very good one, but we should not get our hopes up for Jan.

Whilst our transfer activity is all speculation as we don't have an insider view on our accounts and budget, you have to remember that our owners ENIC are an investment company. It's not just us who are affected by Covid restrictions, Germany (including Leipzig) is also in lockdown, so other football clubs around the world will be concerned about their finances and they will be desperate to cash in some of their players. Our owners might deem that now is the perfect environment to make some calculated investments in our own player assets.

Levy came out and said the club is due to make an irrecoverable loss of £150m if the we can't allow fans into stadiums by the end of the season. There have been reports today that we're putting all 'non-urgent' contract renewals on hold until we pandemic situation is clearer. So I really don't think we'll be investing the kind of sums required to sign Sabitzer while we're not absolutely desperate to add numbers to our central midfield.

Am gonna guess that we won't be having an itk section this window? Been lurking for a couple of weeks and not seen anything

Moura/Lamela/Sanchez out

That's how we pay for Sabitzer and get him in Jan. I can't see us spending the money to get him without one or two sales.

I assume that since we haven’t had any itk, that the thread hasn’t been opened. A&C probably (rightly) thinks that were it open, it’d just be full of wish lists and spam. I’m sure if we get any nuggets of info, it’ll be opened up.

Get out there whoring, people.

I just don't get this link at all, he is Salzburg's captain and they are competing for both the Bundesliga and UCL. Just doesn't make sense, apart from the location and maybe a slightly improved wage packet it's a pretty sideways move for him at best.

Hugely improved wage packet, they have a very strict wage cap and care only about profits.

It's not about profits at all, there are much easier, faster and much more effective ways of making a lot of money than building a football club basically from scratch. They're Red Bull, it's only about brand exposure. The biggest examples of this (effective) stratergy is their two Formula 1 teams, Red Bull Racing and Alpha Tauri.

It's definitely about profits too, like a whole lot. They would have bigger brand exposure with players like Haland, but they didn't want him because he was over their low wage cap.

We really need someone as instinctive as him. We missed it badly in the first half. Can't rely on Lucas to be the spark.

It's just not, you're mistaking smart management for profit chasing, there is a wage cap and they sell players like Haaland because the business is now expected to be self sustaining.

The fact of the matter is that the money you can make from football is peanuts to a company like Red Bull. Their latest available results show that on revenue €6.1 Billion and profits around €750 million.

The money you could realistically extract from RB football clubs would make a nominal difference at most.

You would be surprised but rich people don't mind making more money. And 750 million is a lot for literally everyone. In your words, smart management would be to get Haland, win trophies and improve brand.

Look at how bringing in Bruno Fernandes last January window transformed United's form - they went from mid-table to ending the season in 3rd, and this season they are now joint top on points. We have a gaping hole in quality for the player alongside Hojbjerg, and if Sabitzer is the man identified as who we want to fill that hole, we should go all out to get him.
We already have a penalty taker though.
