Donley 100%! He literally can't do any more For England, in PL2, or in training.

As for why have we disliked the posts defending Ange? The youth issue is a big one, and what I will say is that there are some fairly unhappy people at the club that they aren't seeing any minutes at all, when we are thread bare and up against it. The thought is if they can't get minutes now then maybe they never will. If Ange would rather play numerous back up players out of position than give them game time then it's a concern. Especially as some of these players could look elsewhere because they will have choices, and they 100% have admirers that would take them in a heart beat.

There has to be a pathway even if it's just 1 or 2 breaking in because if there isn't all of Paratici's excellent work with the academy will be ruined.
If this was a year or two into Ange's tenure and he wasn't using the youth, then I would agree it's a concern, but he literally has had only one transfer window and he does need to see if the senior squad players can be called upon (whether people like it or not). If they're being called up into training and within the matchday squads then it's a start, he will see them in training and how they interact with the rest of the squad.

It's all about the long term game. It's all well and good wanting to dig out wins but we're looking to change the philosophy of the team. It's ultimately about what method will get us winning more games in the long run. Ange wants the players to fully understand what he's trying to do. That may mean we lose some games but once it clicks we have shown we can win a number of games on the spin. You have to bear in mind that if we start to defend more now due to injuries and dig out some wins it won't be easy to switch mindset again. He wants the players to press forward and if we get in front he wants us to push for more goals no matter what. That isn't happening fully yet. There's still that caution with some of the players to defend the lead at 1-0. We've now lead 3 games in a row and not pushed on and scored more. I think he needs to stick to his guns, identify players who don't fit this season and embed his philosophy on the team. It's a culture change which takes time.

We hounded out a proven winner at the top level in the Prem and Italy becuase the fans didn't like the style of football and could not take him openly calling out the players for letting a 3-1 lead slip against a club doomed to relelgation.

Top 4 wasn't good enough for many Tottenham supporters, with a squad that was inferior to what Ange has now (and most will tell you that Ange still needs 4 or 5 upgrades). That's our fan base for you.

In 2 years time we will have lost some very talented kids if no pathway is already established.

As I've posted he's playing players who he has identified as having no long term future with us and who can leave in January, so he's not looking to see if they will step up at all, he already knows they aren't the right fit.

There are certainly many many positives right now with what he is doing but there are negatives too, and they have to be acknowledged imo or it could cost us down the line.
I think the only youngster that is maybe ready for minutes is probably Donley, maybe Phillips but of course he's injured.
If we don't see anything of Donley over the next couple of games, I think we've every right to start asking questions.

With that said though, I can also understand why he put Skipp in because every previous manager has spoken very highly of him, he's a bright lad and by all accounts, trains extremely well.
He's not really had much of a chance yet so as I say, I can understand Ange wanting to see more of him first.

It's a fine line manager a squad of players, especially with the turbulent start to the season we've had so far.

Hopefully we'll see something of Jamie over the next few games.

Ange Postecoglou came with giving youth a chance. I try not to divulge as much as I use to. I see Trix has hinted, actually stated unrest for some not getting minutes. Donley shouid of come on instead of Skipp, and loosing 2-1. It is on the manager, and if there is no pathway for the youth, it is again on the manager.

Of course we hope Ange gives the kids a chance, but if that’s the main gripe with him it shows what a good job he’s done so far.

Main and only gripe is not giving the kids a chance, nothing else. And believe it or not, some and rightly so starting to complain

To be fair he started GLC and Gil for the first time and brought on Skipp and Veliz. So he can't keep them all happy. We've hardly given minutes to Skipp and we've had a few midfielders out so may need to call on him. I think its just the size of the squad where he's trying to give players chances. Hopefully Donley gets some minutes especially with the busy schedule coming up. Maybe Ange is being more patient with the academy players though thinking they're young enough to wait their chance. Some of the others he's playing are in their 20s now and he needs to see more of them.

I hope its Donley that's pushing for minutes.... as much as we wouldn't want a player to cause issues because of it I love to see the confidence in a young player to be vocal in stating his case as long as it's not disruptive. Shows they want the challenge rather than being in awe of it and TBH I think a lot of managers wait to see that from them sometimes to seperate those with the balls to step up and those that dont.

Taking off an attacking player for a defensive one when we were losing with 15 minutes to go.
Did he not bring on Veliz and essentially go two up front though? Skipp went into midfield to allow for the change in formation. That's how I saw it anyway, it was actually a positive change and a last throw of the dice from Ange.

How can you expect a pathway in a few months? These sound like pretty impatient kids to me. Ange has been here since the summer. One minute people want to give him time, then he has to be rushed into playing the youth? Makes no sense. It's the manager's call at the end of the day. He'll see them within training and in a match day environment even when they're on the bench, or just in the travelling squad.

Of course you come with a view point that has information from behind the scenes, which I respect, but I think this lot need to keep their heads down and keep working hard. Their time will come.

Veliz is not a product of the academy!

I am aware of that but he clearly is in front of Donley at the moment at least at being a centre forward - isn't Donley more of a 10? Also the query being put forward was why bring on Skipp as it was seen as a negative sub, when from what I can see it allowed us to move to 2 up front with Veliz coming on so in actual fact it was an attacking sub to facilitate a formation change. You can argue whether Donley should have come on instead of Veliz and gone up front with Son but as I said, i'm not sure if Donley is seen as a striker? Maybe I'm wrong on that as I'm not actively following the youth side.

I hear ya 💯 but I suppose Ange will be the judge of how big the drop off will be between say PEH a Danish International or Emerson a Brazil international playing slightly out of position or Ben Davies an experienced Welsh international compared to youth players being given a chance in what is a very high pressure period for us with some very difficult fixtures.

I’ve always felt that the best time to ‘blood’ youth is in easier fixtures where you’ve got a decent lead so the pressure is off a bit.

For arguments sake say Ange played Dorrington instead of Davies or Emerson and we’d lost 4,5-1 that’s his career pretty much over or at least his reputation damaged.

Ange loves playing youth players where he can, he was Australia youth team coach for a few years and it’s something he’s very passionate about.

I trust him to play youth at the right time.

I don’t know enough about Donley if he could’ve been given a go instead of Skipp though.

The disappointments and dropped points are so much easier to stomach with Ange and his philosophy. Nobody who's taken points off us so far will be thinking it was easy. The last 3 games with zero points had us tearing the opponents to shreds at various points. It's brave stuff and it will take longer than a few months for it to become engrained in all of the players. Hopefully the ones who show a tendency to withdraw when the going gets tough will be shifted on promptly - we know who they are, and will be replaced with others who can get with the programme a bit more. We knew there would be bumps in the road.
When were we tearing wolves to shreds?

Just telling you how it is, and why the academy got into such a state a few years back. These kids that have signed up, and some could have gone literally anywhere else, were told there would be a pathway. It was literally the make or break in getting MM to sign a contract as he was far from sure. If they don't see it happening they just won't sign and we will be back to picking up everyone else's cast off's. FP worked incredibly hard to turn it around and look at how good the 18's and 21's are now. I know it's early days but every kid coming through knows that the chances come from senior players getting injuries etc, and here we are on our last legs and still they can't see minutes. There has to be signs that they'll be given opportunities or we will be back to square one.
