I’m going to bed in ~2 hours. I wonder how many new pages I will wake up to?

Really though, nobody is ever going to pick us over Liverpool at this moment. So if they actually made an offer for him that’s accepted, that’s done and dusted. I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, but I feel like at this point we have to resign ourselves to overpay for player if we want him. There is always a bigger fish swimming around. It’s sucks, but it’s true. Hopping we have other options lined up, and the N’dombele loan goes through and is the catalyst for our movements. Feel those wages being freed up will certainly help our spending potential.

I don’t think it is real. Fabrizio Romano posted something 3 hours ago (meaning he was not sleeping) but nothing about Liverpool “sign” or even bid for Diaz. I have been refreshing the news every minute, the news of Diaz to Liverpool getting less and less.

Diaz fo Liverpool is supposed to be big news. But you almost can’t find it anywhere.

If true that we are willing to pay 60m for him, at this moment, is imo not wise. People keep saying it's a statement and that he's a world class player. What I see is a player who has had one standout season in a fairly weak league playing in a position where we are OK. This feels like a FM/FIFA signing to me.

My thinking is Romano might want to make sure all the ducks are in order before tweeting it, or wait until around 8-9am GMT to ensure maximum clicks from england on his tweet. Either way the news has def slowed down. I always forget just how crazy transfer windows can get.

So if we've missed out on an Italian based player to Juventus, a Catalan to Barcelona and now this guy to Liverpool what do we need to do, lower our sights?

It’s that wonderful time of the year once again when we’re upset the club isn’t signing players we hardly knew existed.

The truth is that if Liverpool were in the background all along we had no chance unless we massively overpaid in every aspect to get it through. And that’s just bad business.

Yes. A ”statement” signing would be nice. But that’s just BS to appease the fans. Conte wants good players, that’s the jist of it, and there are plenty of those for the numbers being quoted.

walob.. it sucks getting blown out of the water....but ti's what it is and just like adama it ain't the clubs fault, all the big clubs are monitoring the situation of almost any given player in any league and if they want that player they will just let other clubs do the donkey work a la spurs then come in last minute kind of like we did with John scales all those years ago gazumping Leeds was it?

Club chose targets. Delays on targets. Changes targets. Targets go elsewhere. Spurs fail in bid to strengthen despite an intention to do so.

"But it's not their fault."

I'd be happy lead any army, government or football club if I can commit such huge miscalculations despite full knowledge of the terrain in which I operate and not shoulder any responsibility for it.

"Not their fault."

Sheesh. So take that to its logical conclusion, would it still not be their fault if the same happens next window. Surely the logic still holds given Liverpool are bigger than us. If they keep swooping in last minute and we never buy a player again, that's surely not our fault.

I'm a lot less pissed off at failing to make a signing than I am the claim club officials aren't at fault for the outcomes of their own strategies.
