People love to bring up Ndombele as a shining example of ‘see ENIC do spend big!’ and quietly ignore the fact that we were so willing to push the boat out bc CL final prize money as well as literal years of not spending. Romero is a slightly better example but even then he’s on loan.

Why is this such a problem. Surely it would have been more a problem if we didn't push the boat out after getting CL final money? We were building a £1 billion stadium so clearly cash was going to be tight prior to this.

The club is run sustainably. Every penny generated is invested back in the club. ENIC have never hidden that is the way they run the club from the day they took over.

This constant whining that our owners don't operate like a Man City/Chelsea is just boring to read. It's never going to happen. Why do you feel the need to constantly repeat yourself about something that is never going to happen?

So today is the day where Luis Diaz's long-term hatred for Spurs comes out and the transfer looks completely dead. I've already seen a headline saying our offer doesn't "seduce" the player....

Back to bed ?

As much as I want us to get this guy, is it not a bit weird that we are willing/or at least trying to push the boat out on a LW, when we already have 3 at the club (Bergwijn, Son and Gil). I know Bergwijn is potentially seen as a ST by Conte, Son is two footed, and Gil could potentially evolve into a RW, but it seems just seem like weird squad building from Paratici, considering Gil was only bought in the summer. It's pretty clear to me that Paratici has a list of players he really likes and if they become available he'll push very hard to sign them, even if they aren't the right profile, which is a bit worrying.

If Diaz doesn't happen and we put the money towards a top quality midfielder instead, I'll think it'll be money much better spent.

Agree but we also need to plan for a time when Son and Bergwijn leave. So if can get a quality player now it shows foresight - which is something it feels we have been lacking for many years.

Comparing the "we tried" with the Ndombele and Romero transfers makes no sense. They were sagas that took up the whole window with constant interest. Every window lately right at the end we seem to have these big ambitious transfers pop up and then fail very quickly- Dybala, Martinez, and now Diaz. So you can see why people struggle to believe the sincerity behind it

I haven't watched much of this guy, and I'm aware that he plays on the left and cuts in, but to those who have watched him play, do you think he could partner Kane up top in a 352 or would he only work on the left of a 343?

I don't think it's weird. I think Paratici/Conte have probably decided we are in desperate need of another goal threat as we can't put the entire responsibility on Kane and Son. Diaz fits the bill and seems gettable - in a challenging market. The way Conte sets up his teams with two number 10's behind Kane it's not hard to imagine the positioning of the 3 of them being pretty fluid. Both Kane and Son are pretty two footed as well so I really don't think there will be a issue.

We arent signing him & never actually intended to so it doesnt matter. This was just another charade by the club to make it look like there trying for the fans who are fuming at dearest supreme leader & his absent boss for once again doing their best to see us sink. Had all the hallmarks of it to begin with & everything that has come out since cements it.

This fucking “the club makes fake bids to appease the fans” is the worst conspiracy theory I’ve ever seen. Stop filling threads with this pointless and completely ridiculous shit.

Always the same story isn't it.

Ownership issues, image rights, valuations too far apart.
If it's the player Paratici and Conte want then we need to push that extra out

We always seem to be 10 or 15m away in valuation, which I think is normal when bidding, but then we don't ever seem to be willing to really push it.

We saw it with Skriniar and many others. And it ends up costing us after we choose the cheaper version.

I'm not saying we should pay the asking price immediately, that would be foolish, but we do al2ays seem to look like we are only willing to open the bidding but then back away.
