Perhaps they were getting too high expectations as well. They are pushing surprisingly high just behind the play off places with him in the team. He's a teenager playing his first senior games, and Sofascore using stats have him with the 8th highest rating in their team.

Maybe we should loan swap with Donley there in January?

To be fair, a portion of their criticism is more that they should have brought in a striker rather than Devine. However, a decent amount of the comments are negative about him.
It difficult I suppose when you bring a youngster in on loan, from a big club you probably expect magic.
In reality, its his first real try at mens football.
He needs to acclimatise to mens football and also to a new area of the country after living down south since moving from Wigan.

Came off the bench against Portsmouth in a 2-0 defeat after 30 minutes. He seemed to struggle to get a foothold in the game but that was the case for all the PortVale team by the looks of it

I'm not someone that watches the youth games except for a few highlights nor do I follow League 1, but I'm a bit surprised that he has got 2 full 90 min games in 11 games for a midtable League 1 side.

He turns 20 during the January window and we'll need to find him a new loan if this continues.

Don't disagree with questions about the loan but he only turned 19 in August.

Some of the comments from the port vale forum - sounds like they have been a little underwhelmed by Devine up to this week but views are a changing……..

Hats off to Alfie Devine, he’s just produced an absolute masterclass! He was technically streets ahead of every other player this evening. Let’s hope he can keep it up.

Dont check the Tottenham forum, they make out like Port Vale are a team of over 50s playingon a muddy bog, and Alfie Devine is twice the player of the rest of the team put together😂

Devine looked the player we thought we'd signed.

Alfie Devine’s certain to win the club’s goal of the month for that effort tonight. Wouldn’t surprise me if he comes second too.

I thought Devine was unbelievable tonight, all good things came from him in the 1st half and Arblaster excellent 2nd half.

Devine, Ojo and blaster were immense.

Devine 9 - superb goal, the kind of technique you see from top players. Constant menace linking up with Sangy. I hate to say I told you so, but he needed game time and now he’s getting it he’s starting to shine.

Devine’s best performance for us , outstanding

Arblaster, Ojo and Devine were unplayable and Alfie has really started to click into the player we were told we were getting. We have to focus our midfield on them three going forward and Garrity doing the "ratting"

Devine has been hit and miss since we’ve had him thoughalthough he will become more consistent and will be a quality player

Devine 9.5 man of the match gliding footballer of the most excellent order ,deserved goal

The quartet of Ojo Arblaster Garrity and Devine were outstanding. Levels above anything theyhad to offer .

Unfortunately Port Vale knocked out of the cup on pens by Stevenage last night. Alfie had an assist.
Harvey White scored for Stevenage.
Next Tuesday Port Vale home to Mboro in carabao cup quarter final . Not on tv .
