Sorry, I know it's been mentioned on here before but what are the rights to Upton Park?

You're deluded if you don't think they are not a major threat in the next 5 years. They're going to have big spending power and a stadium with amazing transport links to attract new fans and corporates.

Their projected revenues don't even match our current revenue. What makes you think they will have big spending power? Unless they get bought by a billionaire sugar daddy looking to spunk a few hundred million I don't see it myself.

Amazing transport links don't attract a huge amount of new fans. It never has. Only one thing attracts a huge amount of new fans - success. I can't see them having anything approaching sustained success and think that if they finish in the top 6 this season they won't finish higher in the coming seasons, hence why I believe that this season is as good as it gets for them.

Next term the 'big 6' will all finish above them imo, I see them as no more "a threat" than Stoke, Everton ( under Martinez ) and Southampton

One of them was telling me how he wouldn't mind helping us win the league this weekend if it meant they could get champions league.......... Then I reminded him how they couldn't beat the third best team in Malta and how long they would last playing against the big boys - he now wants Leicester to win this weekend :-D
My work is done!

That sounds strange in itself. How can you get a free stadium (paying rent, but not running costs) but not seriously increase your revenue?

By having very low ticket prices?

So the fans currently going will be paying less? Do they get money from catering within the stadium? And is there going to be a club shop there? Because an extra thirty thousand fans each match (they've sold all tickets remember - they'd sold them all before they even went on sale) must mean quite a bit of extra revenue.

Which would be nice if true. But they have increased capacity from 54k to over 60k for next season due to demand.

Except Spammers have already been questioning the club's insistence they've sold out every game as flagrant lies and misrepresentation. Maybe they'll sell out games against us, Chelsea, Man Utd. But West Ham v West Brom isn't going to fill the Olympic Stadium when they couldn't even fill Upton Park.

They will increase their revenue. Like every other clubs revenue will increase next season due to the tv deal. There was talk the other day in the media ( undoubtedly a piece 'encouraged' by West Ham themselves ) talking about how they will "earn" a billion over the next five years. As it stands, without the new tv deal which is boosting everyone's coffers, we will "earn" more in that period of time based on our last figures!
Match day is all about corporate takings. The Olympic Stadium will have awful corporate facilities and they are restricted on how many corporate seats they can have.

Like to believe you but can only find reports saying that it has been increased. Where did you hear that it is just spin?

You're right, it is being increased, or should I say the seats that were originally deemed to have too poor a view to sit fans in are now being made available. I think the spin quote is referring to why they need to make these seats available ( everything is sold out etc )
Their media savvy owners have made noises about opening up further seats to take capacity to 66k. Imagine the view in those "extra" seats!

They aren't actually extra seats. In the original 54k configuration I believe these "extra" seats were merely going to be covered up as they were deemed to be too far away and they didn't 'need' them anyway. The place is a real mishmash of a stadium. Wait until you visit and you'll see how ridiculous the whole thing is. When the biggest positive of a stadium is 'transport links' you know it's going to be a shocker. They'll be looking to get out of there within the next ten years imo, probably moving in to Essex.

Taking away any bias etc I actually think it's been a disgraceful move by their current owners and they have tucked up their fans big time. At the end of the day they are football fans and despite the banter etc, we are all pretty much the same overall. I feel sorry for them, they never had any real consultation or choice in the move and it's come about pretty quickly for such a big decision. West Ham United ends in May imo. All in the chase for a substantial profit for their owners, disgusting.

People get way too worked up over stadiums. There's plenty of European sides with large stadiums (60,000+) that aren't particularly threatening.

Not to mention it's not like West Ham are making a grand profit off of the bums thy put in seats as they practically need to give the tickets away.

As with everything, I'll believe it when I see it. Success brings fans and West Ham have 3 other teams who are clearly more successful than themselves in the same city. Having a new stadium won't suddenly change that. Not to mention 1 of those clubs already has a fairly new stadium (Arsenal), another is building a new one as well (Us), and another is renovating theirs (Chelsea). This new stadium hype for West Ham won't last long with stiff competition.

In a few years, London tourist guides will read something like this:

Premier League Football at the Olympic Stadium

Positives
:

Affordable tickets for the most exciting league in world football (disclaimer - subject to change).

Easily accessed.

Negatives:

It's full of West Ham fans. Seriously, have you met one of them? And you'll need binoculars to see anything.

Conclusion:

Not a family-friendly environment.

Perfect if you enjoy xenophobic chants, terrible football from the home team, and no atmosphere.

Surely, they can't all be that bad?

* Goes onto KUMB, sees thread called "Sitting next to / near someone that annoys you" and reads first paragraph *

"Pretty much everyone I know over the Boleyn sits near someone that gets on their nerves for one reason or another & one of the great things with the move is that they never have to listen to them spout their nonsense for 90 minutes every other week."

* Hmm. Maybe they are all that bad. Still, we all know the odd loudmouth. Maybe they won't be so obvious in the new stadium. I'm assuming it is just someone spouting off and nothing else. Reads second paragraph *

"However what if it is better the devil you know? What if you get there on day 1 and find yourself sitting next to/in front of/behind an absolute idiot? I'm thinking someone who spends 90 minutes slagging off all of our players, appears to have tourettes, smells, goes to the toilet 7 times a half because they can't handle their beer, has an irritating voice, spits when they shout, kicks the back of your chair, What if it's Noel Edmonds/Russell Brand/someone from towie? etc (add others/delete as applicable)"

Blimey. This is what a West Ham supporter thinks about his fellow West Ham supporters.

And he's not even covered the racists or the thugs or the owners yet.

It's not going to score very highly on Trip Advisor, is it?

I know we're joking about it, but I actually think it will genuinely cause problems for them. Their fans really do seem to have way more than their fair share of vile idiots.

Plus what is it that West Ham think they will achieve by targeting tourists? They can't honestly think that there are millions of West Ham fans desperate to buy tickets for the new stadium can they?

Their stadium is going to be filled with tourists or British football fans who are there to see the opposition. I predict entire blocks of opposition supporters sat amongst the home fans (leading to the inevitable fights).

That's a positive, surely? Being further away from Andy Carroll, you're less likely to get grease flicked at you whenever he turns his head.
