Honestly, we would have been beaten to a pulp if we started Bale and Ndombele, completely the wrong strat against Man City. We'd be so open.

What you are saying isn't common sense, it's just misguided fan logic.

Whats misguided about it exactly? Theres an argument to say that by playing both of them we could have:

1. Beaten the press (Ndombele's passing is fantastic for this)
2. Had more pace and penetration on the flanks with Bale, thus forcing them back towards their own goal

While there is clearly a chance we could have got beaten by more than 1 goal, I don't get any comfort from the fact that we "only just lost" anyway. It was a cup final, we should have gone all out to win it and I feel our selection and tactics were very very poor.

Can’t wait for all the talk about the top players at Arsenal, Everton and Leeds having to leave because they are not in Europe or to win things.

Cheeky bids for DCL, Tierney, and Phillips?

To be fair they haven’t got any top players ?

I’ve hated on Winks more than most, but he looks reborn under Mason. He had his best game for a couple of years today. He looked terrified under Mourinho. But today his range, and sometimes his accuracy, of passing was better than we’ve seen from any of our midfielders all season. He even ran with the ball a couple of times, and got stuck in. Apart from Bale’s electric 10 minutes, I thought he was one of our best players.
Adele, on the other hand, looked completely lost and off the pace. As did Kane to be honest.
Despite the commentators hating on Sanchez, I thought he handled Vardy pretty well. Though you could argue his style leaves him open to ridiculous penalties bought by canny/cheating forwards.
And I still think Serge Aurier is our best fullback.
The problem with Winks is that he can’t pass over 20 yards. Short simple passes he can do but anything a bit longer/trickier he gets wrong. The goal he scored in the Europa league from 60 yards was because he mis-hit a 40 yard pass so badly. He may be more disapplined than Ndombele but he is still quite poor defensively. Though today he play ok.

Which one would you suggest Kane is then?

looks at the three golden boots, and the new assist trophy, then at the goal tally and I’d say of the three, he is a player who leads by example. Whether others follow is a different matter, it’s why you need different players in the teams, and a blend of personalities.

his is not me being facetious, I genuinely think there are games he’s dragged us though, games his flashes of brilliance have lifted others etc.

In what way is he not a leader in your mind.

The days of shouting pointing and berating teammates have gone.
That maybe so but I don’t see him necessarily inspiring those around him. He scores goals, yes but that’s what his job is. He doesn’t grab hold of the game and drive us to a better performance when things are going badly. Most times when we’ve fallen behind he’s like everyone else - heads drop and resigned to defeat. I’m not singling him out just pointing out that his reaction to setbacks is no different to the rest of the team.
In what way do you think he shows leadership?

But that’s not what happened today. He did try longer forward passes today, and didn’t totally embarrass himself. Of our other midfielders, only Lo Celso comes close to displaying the wide range of passing that Winks attempted today.

Winks is a better player when he has the space and time on the ball, but put pressure on him and he panics.

He was never going to do well in a team that sits back, or doesn't want to hold onto the ball. But we need players who can hold onto the ball better under pressure.

Utter nonsense, he's the England captain - many pro's have spoken how inspirational he is.

Really? The amount of games hes won us single handedly due to his pure quality is phenomenal.

As for driving us forward I've seen it plenty. The quick throw ins, freekicks, the dropping deep are examples of him wanting to get us going in games.

I don't understand the hate for Mason. Not sure what people were expecting? Do we think Mourinho would have won against City in the final? Do we think that Mourinho would have got us into a higher spot? I don't think so.

Mason was thrown in and had to swim. He has done ok. Some of his subs and team selections have been questionable but when are we as fans ever happy? He has done fine based on the circumstances he has been placed under. Cup final for first game, Kane being a bitch to the media etc etc.
People tend to band around the word "hate" too often. Mason was not up for the job and his inexperience showed in many respects. While he did his best, it just was not good enough. This my assessment of him but that does not make me a Mason hater. That does not make people with similar views Mason haters either.

It's a point of academic interest, but DCL would be a not-half-bad replacement for Kane. His hold-up play is excellent, he knows how to score a variety of goals and he's quick.

For Leeds, Raphinha has been impressive and Phillips is convincing in a role we already have covered.

Still not really good enough especially if you take into account he isn’t great defensively.

I’d rather go for Toney, I think he has more about him. Raphinha is a good shout tho.

I actually think Leicester will be targeted by a few clubs. Ndidi has to be on a couple of clubs hit lists.

I reckon Pool might go for Tielemans as well when Wijnaldum leaves.

There will certainly be a lot of vultures circling now that they've missed out on CL.

Kante, Mahrez, Maguire, Chilwell, Drinkwater. They always sell 1 player for decent money, and reinvest it properly. This summer likely to be no different.

Hate is probably not the right word from me. I just question what people expected from him. Circumstances played a part in the results. My opinion is that we are not fit enough as a team. Ryan couldn't work on that to see enough change for the results but he brought in a more attack focused ethic which I appreciated. He is so young and inexperienced but I think he handled himself well.

Is this the first time this season a substitution has actually worked out for us? It feels like it.
