Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has claimed that he only discovered his winning mentality after leaving Tottenham Hotspur. Walker departed Spurs in 2017 after impressing at full-back over several seasons for the North London club. Upon arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the 32-year-old has enjoyed plenty of success.

Yes the obvious change that happened to Man City to turn them into consistent champions was *checks notes* working hard on their mentality

and yet I think we saw the best of him.
He thundered up and down the line to its full extent and his contribution made a difference.
At manc he plays very cautiously. He's won these trophies without trace.

Man city were able to buy in a winning mentality in no time at all, but that doesn't mean Walker isn't telling some home truths for us. We lack a ruthlessness that gets us through the final stage and it's been a decades long affliction. Walker isnt the only former Spur to have experienced this. Another great example, also at right back, is Trippier. What an experience for him to have gone from us to Atletico.

Walker is a class player. Was smashing with us and has made a full contribution to City's success over the years. Good luck to him.

And hopefully it wont be long more before we have a trophy or two to prove we've turned the corner on winner's ruthlessness

Well let's face it, we've got the head coach to do it. Now we just need to provide him with the tools and let him get on with it.

Newcastle have also been working on their mentality and have seen massive improvement.
I can"t understand why we don't do it (n)

Where's your winning mentality in an England shirt Kyle?

It's bugged me for years. This predates ENIC, so it can't all be on Levy. Does the long-serving tea lady put something in the tea that saps the players' wills on match days? Or does every manager mentally give up after 12-18 months, when they realise the board isn't going to fulfil their promises and yet another opportunity is lost?

We've got a manager who's got winning mentality in his DNA. Let's hope he gets the chance to see his project through and turn us into what we've waited so long to see.

There is a winning mentality that only comes from actually winning, and getting over that line that first time is tough. That’s why the CL final was such a hard one to take because neither team had that mentality yet - Klopp’s Liverpool were perennial losers at that point, always falling at the final hurdle. They stumbled over the line that day, but only just because we looked like getting the better of them many times over those 90 minutes. Winning that day changed them into winners though and they didn’t look back

that could have easily been us, but you can’t conjure up that mental switch, it’s just the prize you get from winning something significant

on the other hand it’s still pretty rich coming from Walker, because City really do have a serious mental block when it comes to the Champions League. We have never stepped up on those few occasions in recent years when we’ve found ourselves at the tail end of a competition but we’ve still always been the underdogs. City have been the best team in the CL for a few years now and still can’t finish the job which is bordering on embarrassing considering the money they’ve spent to do it. With Haaland they should finally manage but let’s see….

This actually makes me value Son, Kane, Rose, Toby, Jan, Lloris, Eriksen, Dele all a lot. They just saw one of their team mates completely redefine their trophy cabinet with one simple move and they decided to stay put and chase that "sweeter victory".

I believe the only reason Liverpool won that day is because it was us.

We were literally in 2 title races just before he left. Maybe if he'd stuck around we could have pushed that bit further.

Man City have shown you can acquire a winning mentality (one way or another) but there are better examples. Liverpool got a mention above for us helping them over the line in the CL final but ignoring that in the 30 years between titles they won something like 10 trophies. They weren't that great for much of that time but knew how to turn up when it mattered. Not to mention a certain team from down the road either.

Spurs need to learn that quality that can give them the final little bit in the massive games, hopefully Conte has it and he can teach it to the rest of the club.

A winning mentality would also involve being committed til the last kick of the season, not telling your manager in April that you want to leave in the summer……

I just can`t believe this stuff about suddenly acquiring a winning mentality. The money makes the difference-same at Newcastle. Spurs had the toughness under Poch.. Things also have to click at the right time, looks like Arteta may be enjoying that-I still don`t think he is anything more than average.
Some financial investment and a bit of luck please.
